First in the series, and I’m hooked!! Sci-Fi is such a fun way to explore politics/morality , and this does it in a way that is really thrilling and fun. Obsessed with Holden- but also loved Miller!! Shook by the last line-
Fred’s
gonna be bad news. Excited for the next!

Kind of my own damn fault for not being super thrilled with this one. Miller wasn’t my favorite and I got sick of his borderline-creepy obsession with Julie as the book went on. He was smart but still a fifty-ish detective who placed all his motivations on an early twenty-something girl. Plus this book gave me wicked nightmares which even though that’s not a writing problem and more of a personal problem, I wasn’t a fan of that.

An enjoyable ride. I bought a hardcopy of this book the day after the election of 2016. I was (still am) depressed by what this meant for my world and needed the comfort of a brick and mortar bookstore and a hardcopy of some escapist fair.

The heft of this book and the synopsis sold me and I enjoyed the story, the world-building, the characters, the diversity and the fascinating repulsiveness of the new-fangled alien.

I've looked ahead and none of the next books in the series intrigue me enough to go further. As one reviewer mentioned--humans basically suck. I've got a sucky new president in my country and don't wish to be reminded of racism (in this case planetism), corruption and greed for power. Not entertaining right now.

I really liked this book, but eventually the course language got to me and I didn't finish. The plot and pacing is amazing. This is one of the better scifi books that I have read in a while.
