This was such a beautiful book and reminded me a lot of A Little Life (in terms of characters and their connections, not the trauma).
This is potentially now in my top 5 because it was just something special.
I love the mix of crime/light thriller mixed with love and strong characters.
Entirely and absolutely.

3.5 gahhh yeah I really struggle with books like this. The writing style is just so incredibly difficult to get on board with. I feel like it’s literally designed to make me feel dumber than I am. There’s only so many twists and turns you can put in a “thriller” type of book and half of the phrasing was written to keep me guessing but only because I’m just supposed to know from context clues what had happened. Overall, this was just grossly too long of a book. I genuinely would not have finished this book if it were not for doing the audio along with eyeball reading. Also, I probably would have DNFd this book after the first phase if it weren’t for it being a book club pick.
