Though Heby introduces the collection by saying these are haikuish poems but not classical haiku, they achieve what the best haiku ought to: in spare form, they capture a moment that encapsulates an infinity of experience. The cover (yes, judge the book by its cover!) is a fine illustration of what to expect in verse inside: a simple, beautiful picture without forcing it down the reader's throat or bowing to sentimentality.
I like to purchase poetry and support small presses and journals and I regularly cycle work on to someone else when I'm done. This one is by my bedside and it will remain there, a totem to beauty and quiet.
