Reviews with content warning for Suicidal thoughts - Where the Drowned Girls Go

If there's one thing I've learned in my years of reading this series, is that if you don't love a character or storyline, you just haven't gotten to know it well enough. Reading this book made me have a new appreciation for Cora as a character, and made me genuinely interested in reading Across the Green Grass Fields again, even though it has been my least favourite book so far. Cora also bugged me a bit in Beneath the Sugar Sky since it seemed like her entire character was being fat, but reading this book definitely changed my mind on that. As a fat person myself I've always had a hard time finding a good depiction of fatness in media, but this book did it beautifully; Cora's past issues with her body were written so well and so realistically. It also wasn't her biggest personality trait in this story which I liked, though of course her struggles with body image issues were still a central point in her story.
I also loved seeing the effect the Moors had on Cora. So far we've only seen the effect the Moors had on Jack and Jill, who are both already morbid personalities who clearly belong there. Cora however is scarred by her short stay there, and I felt that really emphasized the fact that the doors are not necessarily doors to good or perfect places but rather to your perfect place.
Overall I can't wait for the next book in the series to come out, and I'm still holding out hope for Kade's story to be published soon.

I have really liked Cora ever since her introduction in Beneath the Sugared Sky, and I'm so happy most of this book was about her and her coming-of-age. It's a really lovely installment, and it's one that brings a whole new slew of characters into the mix. Beautifully written with beautiful themes and a lovely installment in the series.

📖 Where The Drowned Girls Go by Seanan McGuire Book Review 📖

2nd book of July 2022 and 16th of the year:

I love this series so much. The representation, the queerness and diversity, the world-building, the mental health discussions/representation, the characters, and the creepiness/fantastical elements are all absolutely amazing! Some of the books in the series are hit or miss for me, and this book wasn’t my absolute favorite of the bunch, but I still really enjoyed it, and it’s high up on the series favorites list! I highly recommend picking the series up, especially during the Halloween season, and can’t wait for the next book! TW for fatphobia, bullying, body shaming, eating disorder, mention of suicide attempts and suicidal ideation, ableism, talk of water/the ocean, anxiety, death, and forced institutionalization📚🎧🏳️‍🌈🌊

I really liked this addition to the wayward children series!! The white thorn institute was a really interesting place and I’m excited for it to come into play again. The only reason it’s not 5 stars is I sort of wish everything was just one beat slower. A lot of the wayward children books masterfully fit the space of a shorter novel while feeling really full. I felt like this book could’ve used another 30 pages to get to know the new girls? I dunno! Still loved it.
