Two lion shifters fight to overcome a werewolf virus in the midst of a Realm war. He's the proud and sexy lion king and she's the spunky lioness who ran him in circles. I've shipped these two since the first book - and their playful dynamic has now shifted into something darker and wilder.

They have spades of chemistry and I loved how she decides to stop pining and goes all in to fight for him. I wished he was a little less 'woe is me', but once he got over it...🔥 Their romance is passionate and very consuming (pun not intended) and the claiming scene is...something else. And their love for each other is so absolute! The background did get a little too busy at times but the action is engaging. My favourite book so far!

My review and an extended sample of the audiobook are posted at Hotlistens.com.

In this fourth installment of the Dark Protectors series, we switch from the vampires to the shifters. Jordan and Katie have been a part of the story since book one, but now they finally get their own story. Consumed also takes place ten years into the future from the previous story. The Realm is in the middle of their war with the Kurjans and their virus which is turning vampire mates back to humans, keeping female shifters from shifting and worst most of all turning male shifters into mindless werewovles (not just humans who shift into wolves, but something much, much worse. They call wolf shifters just that, not werewolves).

Katie and Jordan have known each other since Katie was a small child of about 5. He rescued her from a horrible situation and took her in and raised her as part of his pack. As she grew he was never able to see her as anything more than the child he rescued.

Katie has had a crush on Jordan since forever. He was her savior. She knew they were meant to be together, if he could just see that she isn’t a little girl any more. When she is infected with the virus and is better able to track the werewolves, she sets off with a team to get away from her childhood crush and spends ten years tracking and killing the beasts. That is until she learns that Jordan is infected himself and he has only until the next full moon before he becomes one of the beasts that she will be hunting.

With Jordan’s infection, that puts a ton of pressure on the royal vampire family, the Kayrs from the first three books, to find a cure and fast. They only have days before they lose their good friend and ally in Jordan. We even learn that one of the Kayrs brother has done more than we ever thought to help Jordan in his past and he rose to become the Pride leader in a way that wasn’t all that pretty.

There is also a second storyline with Janie, who has also done some growing in the past ten years. She is now a teenager and all that comes with that. She has a little brother who is protective. She is trying her hand at dating and neither her brother, her father or uncles are happy about it. Then there are the boys from her dreams, literally, Zane and Kalin.

There are some other pieces that are still not resolved yet. The wolf, Maggie, and, Bane Council wolf Terrent who wants to take her from the Kayrs brothers. Jase is still missing with the demons. I enjoyed seeing some of the couples from previous books along.

This book was full of action. I once again enjoyed the overall story arc over the romance, but then that is a normal thing for me. I did enjoy learning more about Katie and Jordan’s past and seeing them come together. But I mostly enjoyed seeing the overall progression of the war and the development of the world and the characters as a whole.

Narration
Karen White did a great job with the narration of this book. While there was nothing in this book that stood out, like in the previous book with a ton of the Irish brogue, I can’t downplay how much I enjoy listening to her narration of this series. I will mention that I did notice a difference in Janie’s voice. She did take into account the 10 year difference in the girl’s voice. She still had a sweetness to it, but not that of a toddler, but that of teenager that has that really sweet girly voice. I thought it fit the description that was given to the ultra petite Janie.

**I like to thank the publisher for providing me with a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

This series has become one of the my favorite Adult Paranormal/Suspense Romances
I had to have them all.
Each one just made me want to read the next.

My least favorite was the 1st book in the series, 'Fated (Dark Protectors, #1). I rated it 3.5 and stated with some fine tuning it would easily be 4 to 5 stars.
Well, Ms. Rebecca Zanetti definitely did the fine tuning in the rest of this series!

The mc's of this one are Katie Smith & Jordan Pride, shifters in the Dark Protectors world.

The chemistry and adult scenes are Super Charged and melt me romantic.
These two set the pages on fire.

The suspense and action is high octane.
Kept me on the edge of my seat devouring every page.

My favorite of the series so far.

I admit I got into this one so much that if there were errors, I flat out read over them.
That is how much I got into this one.

I just hope the next in the series will continue to wow me.

Katie Smith has been waiting for the day when she could finally act on her instinct and have Jordan Pride as her mate. Jordan has fought tooth and nail to keep his distance from being romantic with Katie, now that he has been infected with the werewolf virus, he is regretting that he never made a move on her.

Katie knows the only chance Jordan has against fighting the virus is if they mate, but the mating could kill her as well. Katie wont back down though when it comes to challenging Jordan to mate her, if it means saving his life she will do whatever she can to protect him. Katie doesn't realize though that she has a stalker who plans to claim her for himself and if Jordan doesn't step up he could lose her forever.

I have been waiting anxiously for Katie and Jordan's story and although it was terrific, I felt like a bit of the spark that was so present in books 1 & 2 was missing a bit of it's zing in this one.

This book takes place 10 years after the events in the previous book, Hunted. Katie is now a werewolf hunter and she still can’t shift to her cougar form. Jordan has now been infected with the virus and is fighting becoming a werewolf. The Kurjans attack headquarters with werewolves and do a lot of damage. In the process Janie is hurt and almost kidnapped.

A lot happens in this book. We have Katie and Jordan finally mating, a new push to find a cure for the virus, an attack on headquarters, and Jace is missing. I thought the romance between Katie and Jordan was pushed back by the overarching story in this one. They still were the main characters but their mating wasn’t even until about halfway through the book. I did enjoy their story though.

I can’t wait to see what will happen next, especially with Jace and Janie. I want to see what has been happening to Jace for the past two+ years and how he gets free. Janie is still getting visions but I want to see what she will do to end this war.

I love this series and I was soo happy to see Jordan and Katie get their HEA.

I absolutely loathe time skips in the middle of series' when there is no warning, it is one of my greatest peeves. So not only did it bug me it irritates me that there's a 6 year gap between Consumed and [b:Provoked|13581798|Provoked (Dark Protectors, #5)|Rebecca Zanetti|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1343529437s/13581798.jpg|19167282].

I'll still read it because the series is awesome, but man I hate that.

I freakin love this series!!! This author is just on her game, what a thrilling story this was. I love how she has mixed the shifters so deeply into the Realm. This side story with Jase, that is mentioned, is setting up for, I hope, his tale of nightmares. I'm betting and I'm hoping he's not too far gone. As always, the Zane thing is killing me, I've tried a couple guesses in my mind but I'll bet I'm wrong. Brilliant how she did the time hop ahead in this installment. Off to read Kanes story. I've tried to picture in my mind the Kurjans, and I keep coming up with this terrifying look of them, which really helps when I'm reading this.
