this childrens' book has held up suprisingly well over time

cuma sedih aja pas bapaknya pulang, penulis gak ngasih liat gmna suasana di keluarga itu. i mean, there must be happy tears. TAPI PENGEN LIATTTTTT.

baca ini jadi iriii banget. krn meskipun mereka miskin, tapi mereka tetep bahagia. they literally can still find joy. trus mana lingkungannya enak, masih asri pas jaman itu. keknya itu yg bikin mereka gak stres (or mungkin they are still kids).

intinya,buku ini SESERU JUDULNYA

“Don't you think it's rather nice to think that we're in a book that God's writing? If I were writing the book, I might make mistakes. But God knows how to make the story end just right—in the way that's best for us.”

Oh, my heart! What an absolute gem of a novel!! And to think I may not have even thought to pick this book up has it not this month’s pick for a book club I participate in. All of the many wonderful characters we come to know and meet along the way, this genuine, heartfelt, sweet, and many times humorous story, and all of the railway fun were an absolute delight! This children’s classic is a true treasure and one I cannot wait to read aloud with my own children in the near future!

I really enjoy reading children’s classics as an adult, but I do occasionally read one which I wish I had read as a child as I would have enjoyed it more then, and I think that is exactly what happened here. It just didn’t hit in quite the same way most children’s classics do for me.

Also, some of the mother’s parenting choices in this story were, well, choices…

A weaker Nesbit for me--less funny and more moralistic. Bobbie is a well-drawn character, though.
