“Girls are just as clever as boys, and don't you forget it!”

This is a light book mainly for children but somehow works for all age groups. It shows how three siblings enjoy their life near a railway station and with its employees.
The plot starts with the children's father going away for some mysterious reason which the mother does not disclose to the kids. This makes them shift to another small town leaving their current life behind.

“everything has an end, and you get to it if you only keep all on.”

It's rare to find a book with a narrator nowadays. For some reason authors think it's important to flip flop from one characters perspective to another. I loved the running commentary and descriptive writing.
Strong female and male characters who tackle many of life's problems. A fun quick read.

Okay, I honestly thought this was The Boxcar Children, which my teacher read to me in first grade. The story didn't follow what I remembered at all, but it has been *cough* a while *cough* since I read it. Turns out they're totally different stories, authors, etc. So yeah, this one wasn't very memorable.

I just finished listening to the audio book read by Jenny Agutter. (Could there be a better narrator than one who's played both Bobbie and Mother?)

As always, I'm enthralled by the friendships they build up by being open, the sibling squabbles, the normal adventures and, of course, the importance of the railway.

I read this countless times as a child, and have read/listened at least 4 more times as an adult. Now I get to introduce it to the next generation!
