The Railway Children

This was an enchanting story and I strangely had a very hard time putting it down. Maybe it was because of the suspense of what could possibly have happened to Father. My children read it before I finally picked it up and they raved about how wonderful it was. There were several points in the story that I teared up. The bravery and independence of the children paired with their sweet innocence was a beautiful contrast. It served as a reminder that for all a child's wisdom and intelligence and even ingenuity children are still quite ignorant of many adults fears, prides and prejudices. Simply lovely.

I read this book years ago when I was small and remember enjoying it, I think I kept hold of it for nostalgia. Looking back on it now as an adult, it’s still an enjoyable read although I think kids of today may struggle to relate to some of it (washing clothes outside in a bath tub for example), although I would certainly encourage children to grow be it a go from an adventure point of view. It’s a bit sweet in places but not too sickly sweet as I found Little Women. Good to look back.

Glad to be able to say that I've read it

I read this when I was about nine years old. I remember loving the aesthetic and atmosphere of it.
Thinking about it makes me nostalgic

3,2 of 5 stars!

Finally! My OWL subjects for Defense Against of Dark Arts is finished! Yayy!

When i finished read this books the storyline is reminds me a lt with Mark Twain story that i read about (Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn) the story is about three siblings (Roberta, Peter and Phylis) is moving on to the railway area with their mom since their dad participated into company's fraud

This is the adventures of three siblings began. They always do something goods being honored in that twin or sometimes they do some little stuff that makes people abboyed with them but so far they are such a honest and bright children. If you wanna read a light classic books especially about children you should try read this one and Enid Blyton Books!

4 stars. Audiobook read by Jenny Agutter.

Another classic children's book that I've been meaning to read (or in this case, listen to). The narratioon by Agutter is simple and soft and charming. The story is almost a series of loosely connected adventures, the three children being earnest and painfully well-intentioned as they do kind deeds and stumble upon and aid in one emergency after another! Very charming though, I'll miss listening to this.

Berkisah tentang petualangan tiga bersaudara: Roberta (Bobby), Peter & Phyllis. Mereka bahkan pindah dari London ke "The Three Chimneys".

---
"Now, listen," said Mother; "it's quite true that we're poor, but we have enough to live on. You mustn't go telling everyone about our affairs—it's not right. And you must never, never, never ask strangers to give you things. Now always remember that—won't you?"

---
"Mother said we weren't to ask people for things," said Bobbie, doubtfully. "For ourselves, she meant, silly, not for other people.

Bacaan akhir pekan yang menyenangkan.

Another ‘classic’ that I didn’t enjoy. The story was massively drawn out and in some places extremely exaggerated. The mothers lack of letting the children know where their father was was imo very cruel and not really needed. The ending was predictable. The constant use of ‘and’ like a million times in a sentence (slight exaggeration but still) was highly frustrating!
