If you want atmosphere this is the book for it. Set in the Outer Hebrides Fin returns home to investigate the gruesome murder of one of his childhood bullies. Trying to recover from the loss of his 8 year old son Fin isn't really keen on going back to work but it given an ultimatum and since he was working on a similar case in Edinburgh it makes sense that they send Fin to check out this murder that looks very similar.

While Fin is on the Isle of Lewis he reconnects with childhood friends that he left behind when he left for University. He hasn't been back since. As Fin investigates the murder he is also learning more about his past and maybe some of the reasons why he never returned to Lewis and pushed all things that reminded him of Lewis away. Including his childhood girlfriend.

The book goes back and forth in time, from when Fin was a child to now. It gives us a glimpse of his past and the relationships he had with his childhood friends on the Isle. It isn't until close to the end that we understand all that Fin has been repressing and it all ties back to his best friend.

Well developed characters and two mysteries that keep the story moving. I really liked this book and have already downloaded the next 2 in this trilogy.

Dei vel å avslutte med «As Fin investigates, old skeletons begin to surface, and soon he, the hunter, becomes the hunted». Dette er rein feilinformasjon. Vår kjære hovedperson Fin, vert aldri jakta på gjennom denne romanen. UBRUKELEG BAKSIDE.

(It’s a trilogy!)

Om nokon av mine 15 venner på goodreads har lest den, hit me the fuck up.

This book is amazing, the middle part was a bit dull for my taste but the ending made up for it. Awesome ending.

Really enjoyed this book. Would give it 9/10 - 4/5 isn't a high enough score, and 5/5 is too high. 4.5/5 would be just right. Almost. Probably 4.7/5 (or 94/100). It was really good.

I enjoyed this book very much. The characters were believable, the setting was amazing, and the story was a page turner that kept my heart racing to the end.

Fin Macleod is a detective in Edinburgh. His marriage is falling apart since the death of his son in a hit and run accident a month earlier and his career may not be far behind. He has been investigating a murder when a call comes in of an almost identical case on Isle Lewis, one of the Hebrides, and the island Fin was brought up on and escaped eighteen years earlier.

He heads back to find that the victim is Angel Macritchie a man he remembers as a childhood bully. While investigating the death he reconnects with his past and old memories get stirred up.

This is the first in a trilogy and I am very much looking forward to reading the other two.

I don't read a lot of detective fiction anymore, but I picked this one up because we were on Lewis this spring. This is a fantastic read, and far from simply a detective novel. It's more like a coming-of-age confronting-the-past story. Can't wait to read the other two in the trilogy.

Took me a while to get through this due to lack of time. I really like the book but found it hard to get into when I only have a few minutes a day to pick up a book
