This was a sweet story. I am a sucker for enemies to lovers so I knew I would enjoy this. It ended up being more than a romance though with so many other things happening for the characters and side characters. The pacing was slower than I expected but I enjoyed the way everything tied together in the end.

The title made me think that Duchess would play a larger role in the book but I feel like we got more scenes with Puddin' than anything.

Ashanti runs a doggy day care. Thad is a military vet now in charge of his grandmother’s dog. He isn’t a dog person. They butt heads at first. The attraction is there but they also don’t like each other at first. Too bad their dogs are an item.

Then the dogs go viral. This is good PR for their businesses but it means the two have to spend a lot more time together. Not long after they decide to be friends romance blooms.

I really enjoyed this book. The romance was wonderful. The side stories were expertly woven in. This was a really good book.

Five stars

I really enjoyed this book, but I felt like there was a lot going on. It was so cool to see Ashanti and the progression of her business, and I’m glad that a lot of the book was focused on that. I wish we would’ve seen a bit more of Ashanti with Kendra and Kara. The romance fell a bit flat for me. I liked Thad, but it was just a bit hard to overcome his original portrayal and some of the things he did. I thought the highlighting of veterans right after the military was really cool, and it’s not something I’ve read about before. The addition of the bit of drama at the end of the book was kind of off the wall, and I don’t really feel like it added anything. Overall, this was a sweet story and I loved Ashanti and watching her take on challenges and grow.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

💜 enemies to lovers
💜 slow burn
💜 no third act breakup
💜 a dog love story on the side!

Put a puppy in a romance book and imma automatically pick it up! As a huge dog lover I absolutely LOVED Ashanti and her whole puppy-related storyline! She was so kind and I really wanted the best for her. I loved watching her come into her own and grow her business. And there was a side romance story between two puppies, Duchess & Puddin’, that I adored!😍

As much as I loved Ashanti, the puppies, and even the side characters, I couldn’t stand the male love interest Thad. I am not an enemies to lovers girl. Before reading this, I swore off the trope forever, but since I already had an arc, I wanted to give a try. But, as usual with contemporary enemies to lovers stories, one of the characters always has to be mean & rude, and that was Thad. He was so mean to Puddin’ in the beginning that I almost cried. He wasn’t abusive, but just really mean. He got better later on in the book, but I don’t forgive or forget. If you got beef with Puddin’ then I got beef with YOU foreva! He was also very rude to Ashanti at first, and even though he eventually came to be nicer and genuinely liked her, I just couldn’t make myself like him after how he acted.

This book was VERY much a slow burn romance. It was a little too long in my opinion. I feel like it could’ve been about 30 pages shorter. But, even though I usually don’t connect with slow burn romances, I was kinda happy that it was slow burn because the romance isn’t what I was enjoying anyway, I enjoyed how much time we got with Ashanti & her storyline outside of the romance.

This was a really fun read with (mostly) lovable characters and an adorable side love story with dogs. Although I had some problems with the male love interest, I enjoyed Ashanti’s storyline so much that I’m glad I finished this! Anyone who is a fan of enemies to lovers & puppies will enjoy this one!

Thank you to Forever and NetGalley for this arc. All opinions are my own.

Highly recommend for dog lovers!

While I had a fun time with this and love Thad...I didn't like him in the beginning and I think we can all agree why. BUT he does grow on you.

I didn't love
the situation with Kendra and it didn't necessarily feel needed.

I love Mrs. Frances and the way that she extorted her husband though.

I'm hoping maybe a companion novel for Ridley and Von even though I didn't really love Ridley at times.

I love this black romance with queer black side character representation. Gave me all the feels. And as a hopeful future dog owner I learned a lot. I want to make biscuits for it too. Not a military fan but was an interesting part of the story. Also love new Orleans references makes me want to visit soon. And I almost thought this book had no smut but there is in fact smut thank the ancestors. It didn't need it but I always enjoy good spice.
