Finally! A book I actually enjoyed!! Comeuppance Served Cold is set an alternative 1920s Seattle centered on a magical heist and, well, comeuppance. There are explorations of power and prejudice and the combination of hate and fear. Though it’s a short novella, there is a lot packed in and I would love to read more within this universe—like the fair folk, which played a big role even if they never appear on page. The world-building was phenomenal for such a short tale and it helped me truly imagine this world as it could be.
There were some parts that dragged on a bit for me—mostly the description of the houses—but for the most part it kept my rapt attention. Just note trigger warnings like racism and attempted SA.

It feels pretty well rounded and involved for how short it is. I thought it was a great urban fantasy novella that kept me interested and felt worth the time. There were no plot or character threads I was left wanting more from, everything wrapped up in a good satisfying way. It's a great little tale of people who have been stepped on working towards getting back at the nefarious rich people responsible, all with the help of a smart magic using lady with hints of intrigue about her, all happening against the backdrop of a fun turn of the century old timey setting.
It is told in a non-linear fashion. Things happen and then you see events from an earlier point in time that lead up to what you just saw. I didn't mind it and putting it together added some interest in my opinion but if that approach isn't for you then this book may not be either. It a short enough book and a quick enough read I can't see it being much of a put off for most folks though.
