Goood Lord this was slower than paint drying. Writing was repetitive and superfluous. Ugh

I absolutely loved this book likeee wayy more then I thought I would. Only the beginning I had like a little problem with because I didn't really understand how everything was like put in each other if that kinda makes sense, but after like a few chapters I got the hang of it and loved it from that point on. There isn't really a plot but I just couldn't put the book down. I thought the ending was perfect the story was was lovely, and it really points out the importance of family and in some way related to them.

I think this book is best explained by blurbs. I can see why reviews are a spread but MZ books are subject to personal taste, are always slow and maybe it takes a while to follow what is going on. So she gets a 5 since my eyes started to leak there at the end.

Lenny- she cracks me up with all her titles for people. Grandpa Gus was evil incarnate, Peter became something along the lines of "Betrayer" and don't get me started with "Fuckface" Collins.

This was at 30%:
"Then he reached down to tap her own ear in return, earning him the cutest, sweetest little giggle. They were going to make me throw up.
“If you change your mind, just let me know,” I pretty much mumbled. He was still a fucker.

By 40%:
"But none of them, as fit as they were, were any comparison to Tall, Dark, Less of an Asshole Than Yesterday, and Handsome."

I forget where I was (75%?) when he became "Mr. Innocent" but it was fun to see Jonah systematically break down every wall and barrier that Lenny and her family had erected to protect themselves.

And even though she loves him, he is still "dumbass":
"Jonah literally fucking grunted, and I could hear him breathing loudly over the line. It must have been at least a minute before he spoke up again. “What else did you tell him?”
You snooze you lose, right? And I hated losing. So I went for it. Fuck it.
“Well, I told him I was in love with your dumb ass.” I heard him exhale.
And I definitely heard him when he said in a clear, clear voice, “Did you tell him that I love you back?”

And Jonah?: “Time and distance… that’s nothing for us, is it? Whatever time we have together, I will cherish every minute of.” -bawling-

And all through the book, at the beginning of each chapter, we have messages from Lenny as she tries to get him to respond over a 17 month period.

Which made the last chapter so sweet to see this message:
9:30 p.m. Me: Are my messages coming through?
9:31 p.m. Me: Our flight just landed.
9:32 p.m. Jonah: Yes : )
9:33 p.m: Jonah: Awesome. Take your time.
Jonah: Can’t wait to see you.

Jonah was such a sweetie but I do feel the ending was a bit abrupt. Lenny just moves to be with him and we don't get a glimpse into their life? What does she do for 2 years in Japan?
I for one would have LOVED to see her deal with groupies that approached Jonah. That would have been hysterical. Imagine the headlines- Collins' wife lays out touchy feely groupie, she is more deadly that him!

For such an independent character, I had hoped to hear that she had done something with her MMA/Judo training besides raising her "little booger". And Grandpa Gus- sigh- what a great character. Heart rending epilogue but beautiful in the love they all share.
