Trigger warnings like a motherfucker!
This book is NOT for everyone.
If you enjoyed Untouchable by Sam Mariano, this is the perfect book for you! It gave me the same kind of vibes. It's the kind of book that makes you want to run over the hero with your car several times, and then swoon over how thoughtful he is all while contemplating your sanity and a shot of tequila!
Sound amazing? This one's for you!

Truly by Carmel Rhodes is a dark coming of age romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Lacy Laurel.
This is the first book of Carmel's that I have read and it won't be my last. The best way I can describe Truly and Noah's relationship is messy and a bit toxic. But through the book they both really grew together and by the end you couldn't help but root for them.
Lacy did a great job on the narration. I look forward to listening to more of her work in the future.
I would recommend this book if you like dark romances, new adult romances, or coming of age romances.

Truly and Noah
I loved this book. It was hot, dark and weirdly nostalgic.

I found this book after asking for recommendations for dub-con in a reader group. Some of the books suggested were hot for sure, but not really anything beyond that. That was not the case with Truly. Yes, there is some serious dub-con between the main characters that may trigger some readers, and even I found the first scene a little difficult to get through. However, Carmel slips that into a beautiful story of growth and healing, for most of the characters involved.
Tru’s story was so believable, from her frustrated attraction to an absolute alphahole to her excitement over recreating her mom’s coming of age road trip, I felt like she could be someone I know. Carmel wrote her with a combination of vulnerability and strength that you could expect from someone with her past and the current trauma of her present. As long as you don’t have triggers for some of the content, this is 100% a must-read!!!!

you can't convince me that people genuinely think this is romance. a character study, yes. a story that can be used to analyze relationship dynamics, yes. but a romance? absolutely not. it's kind of unhinged that this makes people swoon because all i'm thinking about is that this is a good show and tell of what not to make teen girls fresh out of high school look for in a partner.
I had high expectations for this book but it didn't work for me. I don't think there was enough grovelling and he was way too abusive in their relationship. Maybe it was a little bit rushed too. It's still a good read.
