Some possible spoilers ahoy!

The epic conclusion to the series. Finally, we get to see how the battle at Scuffenbury turns out. We get to catch up with David, Zanna and all the others. Or not. Well, not exactly.

This book instead tells us how it all began. The back stories of Gwilanna, and in turn Agawin, who was not supposed to be in the time line to begin with, if I'm not mistaken. This turns out to be a very engaging story and Gwilanna, which I really couldn't stand throughout the previous books because she was such a nuisance and I could never fully read her motives (yes, I know, of course every story needs a villain, bla bla bla), turns out to be perhaps the most complex, diverse and interesting character in the whole series. Chris D'Lacey, how do you manage to come up with such intricate stories? It is truly fascinating, even though sometimes there can be too many confusing elements and the main story can be hard to follow.

I have enjoyed this series and I am really going to miss David, Lucy, Zanna, Liz and even Gwilanna. Not to mention Gadzookz, Gretel, Gruffen, Gauge, Grace, Gollygosh Golightly (that is such a cute name!), G'reth, Gwillan, Gwendolen and all the others. I want adorable little house dragons, too!

My journey with this series actually came about by accident. I was browsing shelves in one my mom's favorite haunts as I waited for her to do her exploration for clothes for my niece and her siblings, when I saw Icefire sitting on the shelf. I read the back of it and was curious of the story, never realizing that there were more books until I had finished and looked up the author. Then I read the first book, chuckling at the antics and magic of the characters and went onto the rest of the books, slowly taking them in as I have a tendency to easily be distracted and often chase after things that capture my attention (makes it very hard to enjoy movies at times by the way). Though some things made me confused in this last installment and there was a part where I did call BS, I enjoyed it and am glad I devoted some of my attention to this series.

A thrilling conclusion to an amazing series. Although the series became somewhat confusing near the end, I highly value its complexity and depth. I am stunned by how immaculate these books are from my childhood. Truly a favorite story that I have loved in all stages of my life.

As the final battle looms, events are turned to the beginning of time to follow where the history of dragons first started. A journey through a single important life shows the development of a villain who is the one hope of saving the world.

This book was really confusing, even more confusing than the Fire Eternal was. Starting at the beginning of the end for dragons did not help at all. While is revealed the life and why Gwilanna grew into the person she did, the extra characters just seemed to make the story more complicated. Once time did catch up, the story got really jumbled up.

The final battle between good and evil never took place. Sure, the evil was finally defeated, but there wasn’t a battle. This novel connects up with the end of Dark Fire, where a battle between a dragon and a newly created evil dragon were about to fight. When the time of the battle did come, the battle was over before it even began.

The last chapters were a bit irritating to me with how D’Lacey chose to frame it. While everything was tied up, very little felt as if it was explained and then he chose to change everything at the end.

While I loved the series, the ending was disappointing. There were lots of fascinating elements involved. The magic and dragons were truly unique, and I loved their cuteness and personalities. The time travel and alternate worlds may have been disappointing, but I still found them to be very interesting and great elements to the series.

The last of the wonderful last dragon chronicles but by gosh what a truely amazing author Chris D Lacey is.
This book goes back in time and explains the legend of Guinavere and the dragons and proceeds to take you to a world so creative and somewhat complex. The Fire Ascending captures your imagination and drags you into a place you never would have imagined without the help of D Lacey (or is it David?)
The last few pages became hard to read knowing my favorite book series was coming to an end but when i closed the book my answer to the final word was sometimes.
Thanks Chris for a wonderful adventure! x
