It's all over. And I'm in tears. This book brought me to edge of destruction and back. All my darlings, Kady and Ezra, and Hannah and Nik, and Isaac Grant, and AIDAN and, sniff, sniff....avoiding spoilers.

I could talk about this for DAYS. And Days. It went far and above and beyond All my expectations.
I was practically holding my breath the entire time I was reading. Everything was painful and beautiful. Agh!
Ok, calm down. Take a breath.
There are wonderful, new, fresh characters. I love how Amie and Jay are able to create different characters for each story. Kady and Hannah and Asha are all different. They aren't copies of each other.
Their strengths are all unique and remarkable. Kady is 100% sass and genius. And Hannah is all brute beauty force + plotting extraordinaire. Ella is badass and quick and stubborn.
And Asha is tender & brave & kind. I LOVE her. (though, it's impossible to choose a favorite. It really is.
The guys are different too!!! Nik is so cute & I love him. Ezra is stubborn adorable. And Rhys Lindstrom is extra dense & kind of sappy & innocent.
You know, Nik knows he's bad and while he doesn't want to be evil, he's ok with being a gangster?
But Rhys is all, I'm a soldier for an evil empire but that is TOTALLY NOT MY FAULT. Also, said evil company is killing people but I had had no idea. i.e, I am stupid.
But cool motto for mindless killing machines
Then there's Isaac Grant and the commanders & adults. Who are mostly jerks and occasionally cool. There are so many different characters? But somehow they all stand out and don't get mixed up in my brain.
Probably my favorite side character this book was Lieutenant Oshiro. Her uber-protectivness over Rhys. It was totally cute and sister-like.
A Soldier's First Duty is to their Conscience.
AIDAN. AIDAN. AIDAN.
I don't tend to like artificial intelligence stories. But AIDAN steals my breath away. His narration, his pacing, his ideas and actions.
He feels real - sometimes more real than the human characters. How does this computer have such raw feelings? I don't know. But it makes me cry.
What I absolutely love about the entire Illuminae Files is how it's written. The storytelling is gripping.
The illustrations in this book are the BEST THING IN THE WORLD.
They always manage to bring me to tears. In this heart wrenching, throat burning kind of way.
Plotting wise, this story kept me spinning. So much action. Battles on so many fronts, unbelievable.
Mutiny.
Rebellions
Little kids stealing your heart
Hate/Love romance
AIDAN going wacko?
BEI-Tech trying to kill everyone, again. No surprise, right?
Ezra Grant probably dying. Again.
Nik saving everyone
Kady and Ella teaming up to save the universe
Hannah falling apart because her dad JUST DIED.
And the adults don't need her anymore? BUT THEY ALL NEED HANNAH. And Hannah drawing incredible illustrations. And sorting out her feelings and recovering from absolute Hell. Yeah, Hannah is the absolute queen.
Ok, I hope that wasn't too spoilery. Because this book is freaking AWESOME.
Nik put the entire Illuminae Files together?!?!?!?!?! We're reading Nik's writing??!?!?!?!? And who added the notes in. (I'm guessing Kady or Hannah? or even Ella?)
Asha saving Katya and basically screaming like a complete freaking mother and STOPPING THE WAR, basically. I cried, ok? Asha is so strong.
The Cleverest Mouse. Katya made me cry so much. Heavy Sobbing.
Nik having the parachute?!?!?! And everybody making fun of him. But he saved EZRA's life, again.
The plot twist!!! So Rhys betraying Asha, only for it all to have been a part of the plan. WOW. Did not see that coming.
Ben Garver 'surrendering" only to fool Bei Tech so they could take over the ship. Again, WOW.
Hannah fighting alongside her mentor , crying, crying, crying.
Basically any scene Hannah is trying to recover from her dad's death. TEARS.
THE VERY END. ALL OF THEM TOGETHER. WHAT. IS. MY. LIFE. NOW? cries.....

This whole series was just better then I ever expected. Such an amazing book and the best ending. All of these characters are perfection and I will miss them dearly so a reread will definitely be happening.
What a great book!! I just loved the storyline and format of all of the books in this series and this one did not disappoint. Listening to the audiobook while following along with the book is literally the best reading experience I have had in a while. Best series I have discovered this year!
Spoiler
It was so cool to find out that Nik was the one that was the analyst preparing the footage and makes the story more connected. The fake dead characters thing got a little old but I’m not complaining that all of them made it out alive. All of them together as friends at the end was literally the best thing ever! I need an epilogue or novella of all of them having a normal adventure when there isn’t anyone trying to kill them.
Just what I needed
This was the perfect conclusion to a wonderful series. All three of these books are visually gorgeous and the story is riveting. Asha and Rhys are an unlikely pairing but just the set of characters that were needed to wrap this series up. AIDAN is a complex creation that features all of humanity's fears about artificial intelligence. Overall this book is a brilliant ending.

Considering I finished this book a week ago and I haven't posted a review, you might be wondering why.... I'm still bloody processing what went on in this book. This is going to be a pretty informal review because I can't quite comprehend words. It was absolutely incredible but I suffered multiple heart attacks during Obsidio as well as sobbing at various moments IN PUBLIC and IN MY WORK PLACE.... Thank you kindly Amie and Jay.
Amie and Jay are magical writers, that's basically my summary of this whole series. Somehow they manage to tell separate stories with separate characters and somehow bring everything together SEAMLESSLY. I love the amount of research they put into their books to make sure the science works... its incredible the amount of work they do.
While I suffered various heart attacks during the book, I wouldn't have it any other way. I honestly lost count with the amount of deaths that occurred but hey, it wouldn't be an Amie and Jay book without countless deaths.
The only thing I didn't love about this book was the two new characters, Asha and Rhys. I didn't love them like I loved Kady, Ezra, Hanna and Nik. I did love seeing more of those characters though as well as Ella. I loved the return of AIDAN and lets be honest, his murderous, torturing self and his stupidity. I loved Hanna's diary and the illustrations in this one as well as a few new layouts. I felt like there was a lot of surveillance footage in this novel compared to the first two but I still enjoyed it.
Overall, I really loved Obsidio and I'm sad this series has come to an end but I'm so excited to see what Amie and Jay bring us next. There was so much action as well as romance and budding relationships and I loved it.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
What a way to wrap up the series. The thing I love most about this series is the banter among the main characters it’s how id be talking in these situations too. This last one though really brought on the water works. And Aiden omg like how creepy but so interesting. I know it’s not everyone’s favorite but I love it.
