I finally finished this series! This book was such a roller coaster and I loved every second of it. The audiobooks for this series are amazing and make the books so much more of an enjoyable read. I loved all the characters and the overarching plot. I highly recommend this series!

Soooooo I give it about a 2.5 stars. I loved the first two books , the second being my favorite and idk this one just didn’t hit it for me, I got bored towards the end and I wasn’t as invested in the two mc’s as I was the first two books. I do wanna say that I liked certain parts of what I read but the last 150 pages I started skimming. Wasn’t book for me , times short so onto another book for me . (Sorry if this is a favorite to anyone’s but I wasn’t a fan personally)

I really enjoyed the Illuminae Files series and the third book did not disappoint, however I expected it to get a lower rating than the second book, because Gemina is the best one in the series, in my opinion.

What stood out in this book is the more sympathetic characters. Typically, all of the characters go on with their humor and quirky relatableness as their only character traits. However, this time we saw another side to these characters with Katy grieving over several different tragedies in the novel.

Asha and Rhys are the new main characters in this book, but I felt like this book didn’t really focus on their story so I kind of forgot they existed until we would go back to their point of view. To be completely honest, I forgot what Rhys’ name was for the majority of the book, because I genuinely didn’t care about him that much. I was more focused on the other characters. Even Asha didn’t really hold my attention for that long either. If this book could’ve been rewritten, I would’ve taken their point of view out entirely and just kept the original characters from the first two books.

I just found them to be shoved in the background of their own story and I didn’t really care if either of them survived.

That being said, this book still holds up as being a good finale book. It keeps the action and the fun of the first two and wraps it up well in the third.

It didn’t rate as high as the first two books because I find this one very... muted? Dull? In the beginning compared to the others. Gemina and Illuminae had very action packed beginning, middle, and ends, and this one had a dull beginning, a slightly better middle, and an exciting end. So I guess this one was just not my favorite of the series, but I still think it holds up to the others, I just wanted a little more out of it.

My least favourite in the series, but still such a satisfying conclusion to the trilogy. Kaufman and Kristoff are a brilliant pair of writers, I will read anything they write!
