This book was so fascinating. I loved learning about the lives of women in china hundreds of years ago. Lisa See does an amazing time telling their story. Her descriptions were so vivid I feel like I was watching a movie. Be sure to read the acknowledgements at the end where she delves into her extensive research into the times.

I had low expectations going into this, which proved to be completely unfounded.
This was a highly enjoyable and engaging read; informative without feeling like a research-dump, and descriptive while managing to avoid purple prose. I’m thoroughly impressed by See’s work, and will definitely be picking up other titles by her.
If (like me) you enjoy social history and are interested in medicine, women, and Chinese culture, I’d highly recommend picking up a copy of this book.

Immediately fascinated by this world I knew nothing about.
