Wow… I loved this so much! Very interesting historical fiction, I learned a lot & loved the voice of the main characte/narrator. Well written, captivating story from start to finish, and a few great twists!

I liked the ending, but I waited far too long for any action to happen. By the time Meiling's miscarriage and the re-inquest to Spinster Aunt's murder happened, it felt like all the info happened too long ago to really remember what happened. I really enjoyed the relationship between Yunxian and her grandparents and they way she formed a relationship with her mother in law at the end, but overall this book was just too slow.

I was not sure I would like this book, it is in a time period that I don’t typically read.  However, I loved it.  I found the relationships between the women fascinating.  While the way women were treated and the foot binding were difficult to read about, the strength in all of the characters was inspiring.
