I was worried this would be a difficult book to “get into” but I was very wrong! A very emotional story of a high-born Chinese woman doctor’s life in the 16th century. So much to learn in the book!!! But the focus on women’s health, women supporting other women, and the intricacies of every day life was SO good. Beautiful writing, enticing plot lines, and rounded characters.

I enjoyed the themes of female friendship and how tender, fulfilling and rewarding female friendship can be. I think if i had read this with my eyes instead of my ears i would have DNFed. Topics like foot binding and misogyny were difficult to listen to.
