This really captures the beauty of friendship, especially between an unlikely pair- a midwife and a courtesan. 

I truly believe voicing, compromising , and moving forward during and after friction and disagreements in friendship makes the friendship even stronger.

Also foot binding depictions made me gag 👍

Loved this book! I found it to be a bit slow at parts, but overall I found this to be a captivating and thoughtful read. I was blown away by the amount of research the author did and felt empowered by the beautiful friendship of Yungxiang and Meiling, especially when times were tough. They made each other better and I loved watching their friendship blossom. 

I did not expect
the plot twist with Dr Wong, so that was also a pleasant surprise. It was nice to see the women come out on top and for justice to be served

Book Club read! Would have preferred the book to be creative nonfiction than historical fiction, but the history/topic itself kept me reading. Recommend, but probably wouldn’t have picked up/finished it wasn’t for book club.
