I’ve never had much interest in ancient Chinese culture, but this book certainly kept my attention. The pacing and prose were both wonderful. The story gave reverence to the women of the narrative while also using a specific time period to demonstrate how unfair history has often been to women—the author crafted this story well!

Bardzo cenię sobie w tej książce to, że autorka zrobiła odpowiedni research, a także że jest ona oparta na historii prawdziwej lekarki. Wspaniale było dowiedzieć się tylu rzeczy na temat medycyny tradycyjnej oraz zwyczajów panujących w XV wieku w Chinach. Niestety zwyczaje te były często łamiące serce i wzbudzały we mnie złość, że kobiety były traktowane w ten sposób. Ciężko jest mi z myślą, że narodziny synów były świętowane z ogromną radością, a urodzenie córki było zawodem dla całej rodziny, a nawet wiązały się z poczuciem winy u kobiet i przepraszaniem swojego małżonka za coś, na co nie miało się żadnego wpływu. Wzbudziła we mnie dużo refleksji, a także chęci do poszukiwania szerszych informacji na tematy w niej poruszane, co jest dla mnie dużą wartością.
