Forever 5 Stars! - Reread 3/4/24

Are you feeling this too?

Why yes, yes I am.

A little over 10 years out from when I first read this book and it still resonates something deep inside despite the very rough imperfect writing.

Snark banter, drama action, smexy and swoon.

I’m both relieved and not surprised that this long overdue reread only served to solidify why these two are still my number one!

5 Stars! - Reread 2/3/15

Knowing what I do now, this was quite a fun reread/listen. I was afraid that over a year later the luster and love that I have for these two would dim. I was afraid for nothing.

There's no reason to rehash the plot.
SpoilerWhat stands out for me the most are all the threads Roux and Urban, and later just Roux, have set in place.

Ty's unwavering loyalty is ever present, but hints of his subterfuge run rampant. I still wonder if Burns planned their pairing from the very beginning or was it at the end of Cut & Run that he set things in motion where the full repercussions come full circle as witnessed in [b:Touch & Geaux|16159276|Touch & Geaux (Cut & Run, #7)|Abigail Roux|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1353342638l/16159276._SX50_.jpg|22000005]

Will there be a great shocking reveal in the final book?? I have no doubt things will be tied up and these two will get their happy ending, but how that's executed is obviously still up in the air.

Bottom line, you've got 2 alpha males. Make that 2 hot alpha males with plenty of baggage... 2 hot alpha males with plenty of baggage getting it on. Oh yeah...

This still holds my attention. No doubt about it that I love this series hard!

This concept had a lot of potential and I did like some aspects of the book, however the end
is very anticlimactic. We find out who the killer is but we don't know any of the finer details. We have very little in terms of proper investigative work detailed. There is a decent amount of relationship building between Zane and Ty, only for it to abruptly turn into zero contact, twice (and rather illogically, they have phones? Email even?)

Essentially, the premise is interesting but the actual detail within the text is lacking. There are a lot of loose ends and major plot points which are which are skipped over and there is little character development.

I guess I am in the minority here, but I didn't think this book was all that great. Don't get me wrong, I didn't hate it, but I just never actually felt any chemistry between Zane and Ty. The serial killer plot part was good, although I have to say I knew who it was as soon as they met him, which was pretty early in the book, but it was nice to not have the whole story be about romance for once. I still want to read the rest of the series to see what happens to these two, but I won't be losing sleep over reading these.

Holy fucking shirtballs that was good. I actually struggled with the first part of it - getting the POVs of both characters simultaneously isn’t something I’ve read much of before so took my brain a while to get into it, and for maybe the first quarter of the book I didn’t really like either of the characters much - they acted childish and churlish and I was not impressed.

But at about the 20% mark it all clicked for me and suddenly I was absolutely obsessed. The more I learnt about Ty and Zane, the more I loved them, both are broken, fighting their demons and secretly bi, and you know I love an undercover bisexual.

The story was engaging and hand me guessing (although the killer was spoiled in a review I read beforehand, booooo!!) but even so, I absolutely loved it. This was a thriller first and foremost but the romance was so beautifully weaved in. Ugh, absolutely obsessed.

I am sad that this book is currently out of print; I was lucky enough to be able to borrow the series, but I seriously hope that the first 4 books get re-released because based on this first one alone, they’re absolutely top tier.
