Much better than I was expecting and scarier! Should really be a 3.75 - there were a lot of irritating YA-isms but it all came together in the end. There are some horror elements, which I was really not expecting, and that made this a really engaging read!

3.5 stars. Enjoyed reading it, but overall, so much was exaggerated and far-fetched. A fun, yet ridiculous story.

I had to see what all the fuss was about and to say it was “much ado about nothing” is pretty accurate. There was a point about 30% where the relationships, both platonic and romantic, seemed to be developing in a way I could buy. Then the whole thing fell apart when she was sent back to the human world.

At 68% or so there was a big reveal that made me dislike the love interest in a big way and then the whole story devolved into court drama and I such rage listened until the end. I am terrible at riddles but I got the riddle Feyre was given to solve in a heartbeat. It took her until the end of the book. Sigh.

My husband and I read this book together (it’s one of our things). I frequently fell asleep (literally) when he read it aloud at night, but with that said…the book improved as it progressed.

The last quarter of the book was worth it (though my husband DNF’d it by then).

Despite my inherent dislike of Feyre, the other characters were intriguing and I wanted to know more about their pasts and how they’re stories would play out.

Though Maas’ writing style might not be *my* personal favorite (or is it just Feyre??), the world itself was imaginative and engaging. I definitely finished the book wanting to stay in/ return to Maas’ world of fae.

If you’re looking for something literary, deep, and complex, this one might not be for you. But something for fo fun? 100% yes.

Will I read the sequel? Yes! But probably not right away.
