I picked this one up after getting back into reading. The first series I reread as a warm up was Harry Potter and I was actually new to this whole ‘Romantasy’ genre. I was quite surprised at what that entailed. This was also my first Sarah J Maas series and as you will see a bit later on I am happy for that. Our Feyre goes from a struggling girl who does everything for her family to a pampered princess, which gave me some weird red flags. Not only that, but the way that Feyre does everything for her family and they are barely even grateful! But I think the juxtaposition of the two, lures us into a false sense of security with Tamlin. The world creation and introduction to Fae is interesting. Given Feyre’s limited training and reading ability I am surprised she managed to scrape by in those final tests against Amarantha but luckily Rhysand was there to help her. However in some ways he also gave me weird vibes in this book, he does help her with the tasks but also drugs her, rendering her to an unconscious mess. I mean who knows what happened exactly, it’s not like he had much power in this position. The book concludes with her becoming Fae, after almost dying at the hands of Amarantha. And I think this dying-then-being-resurrected scene worked quite nicely here. While I don’t agree with all the scenes that occur in this book, the way it was written has got me hooked. So much so that I was intrigued to follow on with book 2…

Amazing.

This was definitely a really quick read but I don’t know if it lived up to the crazy hype about it. Definitely good but I don’t think it’ll go down in history as one of my favs.
