I think maybe I am the wrong demographic for this one. I probably would have loved it 15-20 years earlier in my life, but I couldn't connect with this one. It was just too juvenile and angsty.

This is my absolute favorite novel in the world. The story follows the beginning, middle, and unfortunate end of a relationship through the memories of mementos -- a story that kept me on my toes and falling in love with a relationship that was bound to end. Some tears were shed, and some moments were incredibly relatable! Def. recommend it.

Feel sly marking this as read given I only fully read the first few pages before skipping through it in large chunks. Ira Glass had said in an interview it was "like poetry" so I thought it could be a good read. Thank heavens I borrowed it from the library. Too repetitive and juvenile for my liking.

Very touching, very emotional, very real. I'd actually put this up there with The Basic Eight as one of Handler's best. It's like if Eleanor and Park weren't right for each other.
This book is sort of hard for me to give a star review. I liked it. I didn't love it, but it was good. So I guess 3 to 3.5 stars would be my rating. This is the first book I've read by this author.
Here's what I didn't like. There were LONG sentences throughout the book that drove me nuts. They were hard to read and I found myself constantly having to re-read because I didn't understand. Here's just one example, and they are throughout the whole book:
"This I remember, but the movie's lost to amnesia because, Ed, of what you said to me just as the lights went down and they started that catastrophic parade of commercials for automobiles and community colleges and whatnot that the Carnelian would never in a million years play before a movie but that the Metro does without thinking, though from a purely aesthetic point of view, I must admit the one for Burly Soda is pretty cool."
I also didn't care for all the old movie references that are not real movies, so even though it was explained a little, I still had no idea because some of the references weren't detailed enough. So what is the point? I was lost. Maybe they were real old movies, but I've never heard of any of them and there were SO MANY old movie references it just got old.
Overall though, the story held my interest and I did enjoy it. This is also one of those books that I would love a second book in Ed's Point Of View. Maybe called "Why I Was a Jerk". I'd love to get inside a guy's head as to why he treated a girl this way. I don't want to give too much away. But I'm so curious why guys do what Ed did and what was going through his head. Why...why...why?

3,5 stars out of 5.... I don't know, their story was pretty unbelievable.. Everything was going too fast for me.. But still a good book,
