I really really wanted to love this book. Being a Daniel Handler fan I thought I would, the result was anything but. The protagonist is incredibly annoying, I just didn't like her at all.

Tried reading this around the time it came out (when I was an actual teenager) and never finished; tried again now and pushed through but still felt unimpressed. It’s a cute concept for a book but Daniel Handler’s non-Lemony Snicket fiction just never seems to grab me like I hope it will.

It left my heart heavy.

This book was so weird.

I sort of liked Why We Broke Up but some of the things in this breakup box confused me. ALSO, this box definitely reminded me of the purse in Mary Poppins. Oh yeah, this book is about Min, who is the MC, and her breakup box to her ex boyfriend Ed. It contains so many freaking things in it and her explanations as to why she put them in there. I'm honestly in awe that she could fit everything in this magical box because the picture that had the little drawn box WOULD NOT have been able to fit alllll of that.

Besides all of that, I didn't like Min or Ed. God, Ed was boring through and through. He had such high goals in life (PURE SARCASM) and ugh, he was a terrible boyfriend. He treated Min crappy. However, she still stuck with him and let it happen. I don't know how many times I wanted to bang my head against a wall with this relationship.. but I'm glad that it's over and that they are through.

I'm glad that Ed never found love in his boring life.. yet. I'm glad that Min might have something new and fun to look forward to. I just want to know where she found this magical box and if she could find me the magical purse from Mary Poppins STAT?

Overall? It was okay. I probably wont plan to ever read it again or look at the book if I'm ever walking by it in a bookstore or library. I'm glad I read it and I'm glad I can move on.

The whole thing is just boring, and this is why I broke down.

The characters do have their own personalities but managed to be uninteresting. There are long passages of things that I could care less about. Dialogues are ... I don't know. "Min." "Min." okay? Ed feels a walking bad news the moment he was introduced, with his childish trait of using 'gay' as an insult and f slurs (honestly I didn't get the reason why it was excessive, there were also a lot of mentions of H****r). Maybe it serves a purpose, maybe not, dunno.

Their relationship is uninteresting for me, and I hope there was a strong chemisty between the two so that the breakup will be more painful. But all it did was relief because the story finally ended when it should've ended in the first half.

This is not the worst-written book I have read this year but this is so far the most disappointing.

I'm going to be honest , I didn't finish this book . I found it incredibly hard to read as it is very slow paced and I feel as thigh every thing is repeated , maybe it's better if you have experienced a break up , but I just couldn't get through it !!

From the reviews I guess it's a love it or hate it kind of book , so don't take my opinion all to seriously , you should probably read the book and get your own opinion !

I enjoyed reading this but think I would have enjoyed it more reading it as a 16 year old.

Easy to read and enjoy, for sure. I never liked any of the characters, and nothing really surprising happens, so I think I enjoyed it purely for the writing. It kept me engaged!
But why were they only together for like a month😭😭😭 like I think none of it was really believable. they broke up because he was a cheater…. That’s it

Beautiful novel
