The middle is decent and hooks you. The beginning is slow. The end is predictable and not. Narrator engages in delightful ramblings
I had high hopes for this books before I read it--maybe too high, which is why I was a bit disappointed when I finished. "Why We Broke Up" is written in the form of a letter, the break-up letter Min sends to Ed at the end of their short-lived relationship. It reminded me a bit of Jay Asher's amazing "13 Reasons Why". But what Asher was successful in and where Handler failed was that "Why We Broke Up" is one-sided and we never hear from the other side. Also, the writing style is just too choppy and, at times, kind of rant-y. Despite that, I still liked the story and I was actually hoping that Min and Ed would end up together because they just seemed so right for each other.
What I would like to know is if the relationship was as real to Ed as it was to Min. Personally, I choose to believe that Min truly was special and different to Ed, despite what he did. I actually thought they were perfect for each other because of how they were together, although I don't know how a relationship that started with a lie could end happily. Somehow, even though the book ends sadly, it wasn't as depressing and heartbreaking as it should have been.

I stop having a interest in this book and I don't want to keep having it in "Currently Reading" so I'm DNFing it
This book is first of all, completely refreshing. I'm a bit tired of the predictable teen love stories. But this was so different, in that it begins at the end. It's structured beautifully, and Min's voice is funny, relatable, and biting - you fall for Ed, with her, despite what you know from the very start. I finished it in a day.
Daniel Handler really gets angsty teenagers. Damn, if I wasn't the same way.
I love the unresolved nature of this book, the fact that teens actively have sex lives, that they have zany ideas that seem to crop up out of nowhere. And with Maira Kalman's illustrations, too? Blown away.

Es uno de esos libros que muestran melancolía sin caer en lo cursi
"Te ofrecí una aventura, Ed, justo frente a ti, pero no fuiste capaz de verla hasta que yo te la mostré, y por eso rompimos."

That was such a bittersweet ending. I thought it would leave me crying. I'm happy that everything turned out okay. But, god my heart is beating so hard at that revelation.
I think, I think I sorta knew the reason why - though it was so subtle I didn't actually pinpoint on it.
This just brings back all those bad memories of my first break up. Hey, it was almost like this book.
