The unique format of this book reminded me almost of "Thirteen Reasons Why". I absolutely loved this book though; it had a very honest voice that expressed Min and Ed's young and naive love. Although I did find the sentence structure odd and sometimes confusing, it added to the originality of the book.
I wanted this book to be so good, I've been wanting to read it for so long, but this was just another massive disappointment.
Not only is this book dull, and I mean really dull. It also portrays a really shitty romantic relationship, and I don't think the whole shittiness of that relationship is even properly addressed. Not only that, the main female character of this book is so underdeveloped and to be honest I can only tell you only three things about her - three things!!!
David Handler you've got to do better.

I really enjoyed this book. The artwork was beautiful and I love Daniel Handler's writing style.
This was really excellent. It is filled to the brim with emotion, with poignant reflection, and with heart--whether whole or broken.

I have heard so many good things about this book on booktube, so I was excited to pick it up. I was expecting it to be sad and touching.
However, I was disappointed... I think it was because Min and Ed were so young and I thought their love was a little bit silly and immature, which can be both cute and amazing. But I was hoping that the story would be deeper.

I really enjoyed the creative writing structure of this book, and the main protagonist's voice and quirky personality. I found the book slow at certain times, but still very much enjoyed this book, even though it wasn't a very happy book. If that makes sense.
"Arty" Min falls in love with basketball co-captain Ed. Their romance lasts only a few short months, and Min leaves a box of treasures from their relationship on his doorstep. Angst-ridden first love.
This book was just okay. I enjoyed the idea of the book but had trouble reading some of the chapters.
Ugh, this is basically like having to listen to your friend whine about her crappy ex for hours and days. At first you're sympathetic and maybe a little intrigued by all the dirty details. But by the end YOU DO NOT GIVE A CRAP OH MY GOD MOVE ON ALREADY YOU TWO WERE NEVER GOOD TOGETHER. Just hand the girl [b:It's Called a Breakup Because It's Broken: The Smart Girl's Break-Up Buddy|33353|It's Called a Breakup Because It's Broken The Smart Girl's Break-Up Buddy|Greg Behrendt|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1320531613s/33353.jpg|577082] and move on.
It is clear from the beginning that the reason they broke up was because Min only dated Ed for the shallow reason that he was hot and popular. BIG SHOCKER YOU CRAZY KIDS DID NOT MAKE IT. Yes, Min and Ed had some good moments together. They were young and cute and wanted to like each other! Of course there were some fun times in the honeymoon stage!
Min was smug and preachy. She had no respect for Ed – she treated him like the dimwitted jock he more or less was. Ed liked Min for the grand old reason that "she was different." Ed was a dumb puppy unable to articulate to himself or others what he actually wanted so just kind of went with how he felt at the moment. He was thoughtless towards other human beings because he had never bothered to actually think things through (and because he was attractive enough he could glide through life without experiencing real consequences).
Ed was kinda a crappy boyfriend, but does he deserve a giant This Is Why You Suck letter? No. Also, if this was an actual letter, it would be like 100 pages long (you know, taking out the pictures and making the font smaller). If I was Ed I would write a letter back to Min describing how she was condescending and annoying for the entire relationship and dragged him to boring old films and then mocked him for the things he liked.
Min was annoying and judgy. Ed was careless and selfish. Neither of them went into the relationship for the right reasons - it was all about physical attraction and an image of who they thought the other person was. So very high school (and sadly true even after high school). And that's why they broke up!
