This is a truly fantastic mystery with literary fiction vibes.  I inhaled this in the course of one day; it was captivating.

Amidon expertly crafts a mystery surrounding the death of a young newcomer, Eden, who has befriended some local wealthy teenagers. The air of suspicion follows main players Christopher, Jake, and Hannah who were the last to see Eden alive.

Simultaneously, we are embroiled in the drama of the neighborhood adults, including the parents of the accused teenagers. And no one is quite who they seem.

From the very first chapter, the reader is propelled into the lives of the townsfolk of Emerson Heights and left to wonder: who really killed Eden?

This book warrants content warnings: sexual assault, BDSM, pornography, infidelity, racism, sexism, drugs, and more.  I’m a pretty sensitive reader and I didn’t have any trouble with this book, but I’d advise others to read up a bit to be sure it’s your speed.

I was drawn in by the excellent writing and stayed for the captivating storytelling.  The ending was perfection. 5 stars.

Like most of the reviews here, I'm not entirely sure what to make of this story. It shrouds itself in so much mystery that at one point I just want to be done with it. Unlike the fast pace thrillers that keeps me up all night wondering who the culprit is, Locust Lane is easy to put down and very forgettable. As it tries to build up tension and reach its climax, the various accounts of the actual event became repetitive and drawn out which only exacerbated my mental fatigue. And to make matters worse, the ending fell flat as it left me hanging unresolved feeling both sad and upset all at once. It's vaguely reminiscent of The Great Gatbsy in its theme but this one is no classic. It has great potential and the premise is good but how it was executed left a rather bad after taste; I was more confused than satisfied. I likely will not read from this author again.
