A Court of Thorns and Roses tested my patience more than once. I liked it — but just barely. The Stockholm syndrome undertone was loud and persistent, and honestly, it wore me down.

Lucien and Rhysand completely stole the show. By the end, they outshined Tamlin by a mile. Tamlin’s silence “for her sake” was… fine, I guess. But then he turns around and puts her in danger in one reckless moment? Wildly unattractive. I lost all respect for him then and there. Rhysand was by far way more deserving of praise than he received by putting his neck on the line for her and others several times. Though to be completely clear he has no damn concept of consent and is willing to humiliate Feyre at any time and will torture and torment anyone insignificant to him. Soo yeah no man in this book is fantastic, outstanding or exceptional on any count.

Feyre being illiterate made every scene involving written words agonizing. With all that downtime, she still couldn’t pick up reading or writing at a reasonable pace. Watching her struggle was like dragging a boulder uphill — frustrating and slow.

Nesta, though, redeemed the book halfway through. She was a breath of fresh air: sharp, assertive, and unapologetic. I understood her coldness toward her family — she resisted the system in her own way, and her complexity and stubbornness made her compelling. The sisterly bonding moments were among the most heartfelt in the book.

The father, on the other hand, could kick rocks. His last-minute vanishing act during Feyre’s farewell summed up his character: passive, cowardly, and absent. He never stepped up for his family, never took true accountability, and never showed any real growth or remorse. Makes my mouth taste bitter thinking about how he told feyre to go to her death at the start was honestly just for his sake in the end despite relying on her skills and trade heavily..

Overall, it was an ok read — boosted a lot by TikTok hype — but it’s definitely not for everyone.

I enjoyed this read and went through it relatively fast. I would describe it as beauty and the beast for adults with some twilight undertones. I'm sure that description will make some people cringe but as a millennial that's my take. I found it to be somewhat predictable but had enough suspense to keep me reading on.
