The story is great. The writing is "eh" probably because it's a translation.
I love the characters of this book and the ideas behind the world that Heitz creates. However, things do have a tendency to just... happen. It's like most stories in that you know X, Y, and Z are events that have to take place, but usually the author fleshes out the struggle to accomplish it. In War of the Dwarves (and in the Dwarves, really) the actual struggles and climax points are brief and overly simple. I don't know why this is because I can't imagine the book being much longer.
I don't know, the book perplexes me. It's kind of... simple epic fantasy if that makes any sense at all. But I enjoyed it because I like the high fantasy version of dwarves and I enjoyed the characters.

This is such a great series. Tungdil and his companions didn't disappoint me. I was nervous after how much I loved the first book, this wouldn't be as good. I'm glad to be wrong. It is an excellent story and I loved it as much as I did the first.

Another home run Mr. Heitz you continue to sate my appetite for destruction and story. Tungdil and friends return in this epic. I like how there is more conflict added within the main character to keep the story interesting. And an in depth view on the thirdlings and how tungdil truly is unique. Tungdil continues to be the leader we know he can be. I am overly excited to read the third book and will be buying the 3rd on release day.

Read the first book, slowly at first but then in a week or a week and a half I raced through it. Ordered this book and the third installment the revenge of the dwarves immediately when it became obvious I was devour the 700 page behemoth in a week.
The book takes on a much darker tone with some of its supporting characters and further fleshes out the world gradually increasing its scope of characters.
I'm starting to worry that I'll read through all the books in the series before Markus Heitz can translate them into English - either that or I have to step up my German lessons considerably.
