I didn’t tag this as queer because it's not really a central thing, but I want to mention that one of the protagonists is bi and this is in fact bi rep!

This book was really well written and suspenseful and interesting. I felt really worried about the whole "we go beyond what the CIA does" and tbh I'm still worried going forward into the next book? Because fuck the CIA. ACAB. Especially private contractors for colonial seige states. There's a lot of books I've avoided on the basis of copaganda. I feel like this one is soft copaganda in that the mission actually does involve taking down a billionaire war criminal trading with a bioweapon that is compared to the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Obviously this is a person who should be stopped. So if you also are someone who avoids books for this reason, this is probably not as bad as other books, but still the principles of the existence of the spy group are really questionable, and it's weird to portray this as sympathetic unless there was some kind of "there are some missions for the CIA we don't do" (like what did this group do during the early stages of cointelpro?)

Anyway. So this is 3 stars instead of 4 because of the copaganda aspect. But it is a genuinely good book otherwise.
