The plot of this one was so interesting- deeply disturbing, but fascinating. Seeing Brennan question her own reality as they move through the story was wild, especially since the reader has no clue whether or not she's perceiving things correctly. One of the most terrifying plots by far, but fantastically written. The interpersonal relationships in this one are incredibly interesting as well- I love to see this incredibly brave and daring side of Brennan.
Graphic: Death, Gore, Panic attacks/disorders, Blood, Medical content, Murder
Moderate: Child abuse, Trafficking, Kidnapping
As always, great suspense, hard to lay down, but after 19 books it kinda starts to feel the same.
Great "in-between" book tho.

2...Writing this review is so hard...this has been one of my favorite series, since it's release...BUT the last couple have been not up to par...I feel as though, it is slowing trying to morph into the show...AND it just doesn't work...the storyline was silly and to be frank, outlandish...
Even though this is the 19th book in the series, it is the first for me. I really enjoyed Kathy Reich’s writing style- most chapters end on a cliffhanger so I wanted to read on. I liked the tension between characters, the science behind the investigation and also the humor that’s sprinkled throughout.
Tempe Brennan is back. She’s had some medical issues, is still coming to terms with the loss of her boss and mentor and has a low opinion of the person now heading up the ME office for Mecklenburg County. The feelings are mutual and Brennan finds herself on the outside looking in with her services no longer required in North Carolina.
When a body is found ravaged by feral pigs,Tempe receives photos of the crime scenes anonymously and begins working with Skinny Slidell to identify the body against ME Margot Heavener’s orders. What they uncover leads to more and more mysteries and other unsolved cases in the area.
Welcome back Kathy Reichs. She takes the reader on a wild and convoluted ride and adds an element of unreliable narrator into the mix to keep you turning pages following leads along with Skinny and Tempe. Tempe takes risks. She always takes risks and it’s up to Slidell to keep her safe while he hunts down his own theories on the case. This is a great addition to the series and this is one time when reading the afterword by the author reveals much about the new version of Tempe we see in Conspiracy.
Well done.
