I've been a Temperance Brennan fan since the first book was published. In fact, if I'm working in forensics nowadays is in part because of her books, so it pains me to say that "A conspiracy of bones" didn't grabbed me as her previous stories. I still think it's a good book, but the main plotline didn't catch my attention as I would have like. Besides, I've always prefered Brennan's cases in Quebec.

It's been a while since I read the last installment in the series, so I didn't remember much about Tempe's actual situation. After the death of her boss and a health scare, now she's at odds with her new boss. When a faceless corpse is found she's not ask to consult on, but that doesn't stop her. One of the things I liked the least was that she doesn't do much forensic work at all, but police one. Also, Ryan is a pretty secondary character this time, so that was a bit disappointing.

The plot was a pretty convoluted one, mixing conspiracy theories, child kidnappings...and, in my opinion, was a bit far fetched at points, although at the end most of it ties altogether.

Good follow up to the series but not the best one by far, so I hope to see Tempe truly back to form pretty soon.

Thanks to Netgalley and Simon & Schuster UK for providing an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

I’ve been following Kathy Reichs’ gripping forensic anthropologist novels featuring Temperance (Tempe) Brennan for many years now and always found her stories to be intelligent, clever and highly entertaining. “A Conspiracy of Bones” is the nineteenth in the series and sees Tempe returning with some physical and mental changes in her life, that have left her with some emotional and paranoia issues. This doesn’t stop her still being at the top of her game and is determined to find out who the faceless corpse is, that has been brought into the morgue and photos of him forwarded to her anonymously.
Although the subject matter of missing and murdered children is at times distressing, I did find the story very addictive and as is normal with Kathy’s books the attention to detail is second to none. I do have to admit to a lot of the technological detail going over my head but that’s just me, the author always ensures readers have the full details to her plots and premises and thus makes for very informative and interesting thrillers. I was particularly interested in all the conspiracy theories mentioned on the dark web, a lot of which I can say for myself, that I’ve considered to be questionable.
Personally, I would say you do need to have followed Tempe in some of the earlier novels to connect properly with this wonderful character, though you probably could easily read this book as a stand-alone too. Tempe Brennan is an outstanding character, sharp, witty, intelligent and a pleasure to read about and hope she’s still helping to catch criminals for many more years to come.

Thank you to Love Reading for my copy of the book in return for my honest opinion.

When this showed up on Netgalley I knew I had to have this book, and I am so happy that I was accepted to review the latest in a long line of Temperance Brennan novels. I have been a massive fan of Kathy Reichs for as long as I have remembered and have read every single book in this series.

I also listened to the audiobook alongside the ARC I received which I greatly enjoyed. The narrator had a way of fleshing out these much-loved characters and bringing them off the page and into my imagination.

Here, Dr Temperance Brennan works hard as she tries to uncover the truth behind the "faceless" corpse at the local morgue whilst battling against her new fame-hungry boss, crazy conspiracists and the ever-present omen of death within her skull.

I did miss Brennan's usual trips to Montreal and the multiple cases she usually helps to solve by using her amazing, intuitive skills in forensic anthropology. Reichs' current novel felt a bit like a mixture of chess and one of those complicated wooden puzzles all rolled into one. I still would have liked Brennan to have figured out what the victim was trying to tell her at the beginning of the story. It was touched on but never looked into other than as clues into the identity of the deceased.

Overall, this was a great crime novel that really stands out with a feisty heroine, just like its author who continues to power on and kick ass in all that she does.

Massive thank you to NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Loved the tv show and loved the book, will definitely be reading more of them

A Conspiracy of Bones by Kathy Reichs is a 2020 Scribner publication.

Following surgery for an aneurysm, Tempe is experiencing migraines and strange dreams, and is possibly seeing things that aren’t really there.

After receiving a text message with the image of a dead man, with no face or hands, she is intent on discovering the who the man is…

But- her new boss despises Tempe and has frozen her out of the investigation, which leaves her no other choice but to go rogue… with the help of Skinny Slidell.

While Tempe is not actually working in the lab- the forensics she in an expert is still featured prominently. I think I liked having her out ‘in the field’ working the case like a detective would. She and Slidell made a really good team.

The mystery is very engrossing, but the subject matter is quite very dark and quite disturbing, as is the use of the Dark web- unfortunately, though, it was all too realistic.

Slidell provides a bit of much needed comic relief on occasion- but one does, like Tempe, need to know how to take him. His having referred to the internet cloud storage as the 'fog' or 'the mist' made me laugh out loud.

Overall, an interesting addition to the series. Looking forward to the reading Reich’s newest release!

Pictures of a faceless corpse have been sent to Temperance Brennan's phone. Why and who is he? But with a new boss at work, one that she is in conflict with, Brennan's search for the truth results in an unofficial investigation with the help of retired detective, Slidell.
I finished the book but I just could not get my interest involved in the story and at times I felt that there was too much indepth pointless information.

I requested and received an e-ARC of this book from NetGalley and Simon & Schuster Canada Publishing in exchange for an honest review.

I will start by saying I have never read any of the previous Temperance Brennan novels but I did watch every episode of Bones and was excited to read this book.

I quite enjoyed reading this book! Dr. Temperance Brennan is recovering from surgery and inserts herself into an investigation without being asked for help; all because she dislikes the new head of department. This book had a lot of interesting twists and characters.

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

I'm a fan of Kathy Reichs books and the show Bones, so I was absolutely thrilled when my request to read A conspiracy of Bones was accepted. This book is fantastic, a wild ride and a compelling and intriguing mistery. When our main protagonist sees a trench coat man around her house and then get some crime scene photos of a dead faceless and handless man on her phone, Temperance decided to investigate, but her physical and professional life isn't easy. At all.
Larabee, her boss, is dead and the new one shares a bad history with her, since Margot Heavner was called (and it was true) unprofessional by Brennan when she disclosed information regarding an active missing kid case with a broadcaster, Nick Body, known for his outlandish teories about vaccines, conspiracy theories and so on.
Temperance has an aneurisma (as the writer) and suffers from headaches, her child is in a war zone, her mother has a new boyfriend and cancer and she still has to decided if live with Ryan is what she wants or not. So her life is complicated and it's not helped by this case, but clues about a old disaster, missing kids and conspiracy theories pushed Temperance to seek Skinny Slidell's help, Hawkins and other friends, while trying to recover from the professional exile Havner imposed on her.
The plot is complex and Brennan fights all the time with theories and self-doubts, asking herself what is real, what is not, scared for her aneurysm, her brain, her memories, navigating this complex investigation. As always the book is full of twists and discoveries and a lot of learning. I learned what is the deep web, or about the livor mortis and the reading was interesting and intriguing. I couldn't be more happier to have read this book, the ending was really realistic and full of hope and hardwork. It touches a lot of topics, from broadcasters who used people's fears for their gains, child pornography and disappereances, the cute and creepy discoviery about zombie ants, the deep web. I really loved and enjoyed this book and it was interesting seeing the brilliant Brennan battling with self-doubts and what-ifs, it was absolutely relatable.
Brennan is an amazing and realistic character, you can't not root for her and her journey, her growth, her works. Ryan was lovely, brilliant and cheeky as always and I really enjoyed reading about Slidell and his partnership with Brennan, his expletives, so colourful, his being a really good guy, fighting for the truth.
I loved reading about Temperance's brain processes, how she remembered and connected various bit, having epiphanies and discoveries. Absolutely fantastic. I wish I had half of her brain, sometimes XD

5 stars, a fantastic journey and an another wonderful book
