This is a book that will be talked about for a long time.
Beautifully written. Multi-layered. Dimensional characters.
Well done.

Beautiful book. An example of how to stand up to bullies and to care for those who need it most. I want to be Annabelle when I grow up.

This was a very intense middle-grade book, but it was a good story that was beautifully told.

I read some of the comments to a question about whether the book is misclassified as juvenile instead of YA and I thought that was very interesting given that I don't know much if anything about the different classifications.

Surprisingly, I liked this middle grade book a lot! I don't remember the last time I read a book for this age group, but I plan to change this. It's mystery mixed with history, and the plot is maybe a bit far-fetched, but compelling.

Definitely earned its newberry! Loved this book from beginning to end and what really captures me was the prologue where Annabelle, the narrator, kept referring to the lies she told. A quick read that showed a strong female character and a conflict that carries through to today's issues as well.

Very good middle school heroine and a reminder that our assumptions are likely “off.”

A must read! An important book to have in students hands this school year.

SC Award Winner. Took a while to build momentum. I was a little irritated with the protagonist’s personality, but the revelations at the end were surprising and satisfying enough to overcome that.
