Lindsay makes us root for the evolution of Dexter's humanity in every sequel!
3.5 stars because I literally laughed out loud at some places.
I'm a little worried that Dexter is losing his edge, though.........

I should've stopped at the last one, but silly me, I wanted to see what happened next
Nothing happens in this book. Dexter sees some gore, and he travels to different countries.
What got to me was how Deborah is portrayed in this. He calls her “the authority figure with
a gun who wants to send you back to El Salvador after she has seen you beaten and raped”. She's so out of character, and despite being in half the book, she's just there to drive the plot. She doesn't do anything, and neither does her boyfriend. Hell, Dexter hardly does anything in this one!
I get that this was written in 2009, but dropping the f slur just cause, naming a black character Simeon, and constantly calling his sister a vegetable, felt off to me. It's giving Kingsley Shacklebolt.
I just. I'm done with this series. Sorry

Moderate: Body horror, Death, Gore
An improvement on the 3rd book but still not quite to the standard of the first two! I'm still a big fan though :-)
I liked this book a lot. It showcased a lot of Dexter's dark humor, which I really enjoy. One thing I didn't like was Detective Coulter. I generally don't like it when people grow suspicious of Dexter. It takes some of the fun out of the books for me.
It took me 2 tries to get into this book. The first time, I read somewhere around 50 pages, and just wasn't moved to continue reading. The second time around, I started approximately where I stopped the first time (a few months ago), and I was able to get into the book. If 1/2 stars were possible, I'd give this 3.5 stars. It's always fun for me to hear Dexter's thoughts, so that's a plus. The pacing was really off for me, but once the story picked up, it really picked up. I really enjoyed the last half of the book.
