finally finished another book! only took me forever. trying to kill this slump.
overall, I enjoy the dexter novels. this one wasn't amazing, but it wasn't terrible. prolly gonna start the 5th one soon.
still a little turned off by this weird supernatural thing that may or may not actually exist, but it's a lot less prevalent in this one than the last. so at least there's that.

The story feels "Loose." Enjoyable, sure, but there are some things that could be cut out.

Jeff Lindsay seems to be running out of steam. The first two books of this series were amazing. The third was awful. This installment, the fourth, is slightly better than the last.
I love Dexter but a lot of the quick wit and snark that was so prevalent in the first two books seems to be seriously lacking in Dexter By Design. At least the Dark Passenger is back, though. Hoping for a grand finish in the next book.

Another great story in the life of Dexter Morgan, the enigmatic serial killer of Miami. As in the previous books, Dexter encounters danger to himself and his family in the form of another killer hell-bent on revenge. Dexter and Rita, while on their honeymoon in Paris, encounter a gruesome new type of art involving the removal of human limbs. And, synchronistically, when they arrive back to Miami a new killer has begun making artwork out of the corpses of tourists. Yet, while investigating this new outbreak, Deborah is stabbed in the line of duty and left comatose in the hospital. Dexter, discovering the kindling new feelings within himself of sadness and the drive for revenge, pursues the attacker. The cat-and-mouse chase, however, turns on its head and leaves Dexter spinning in circles trying to protect himself and his family. A great story, amusing as always and well-written. My only tiny complaint is that after four books, the stories are getting a bit repetitive and predictable. I liked how Lindsay introduced the history of the Dark Pasenger in the last book. The ending of this book left the story open for a lot of expansion and I really hope he capitalizes on that in the upcoming "Dexter is Delicious".
Halfway through the series officially! I really love Dexter and always laugh when he has awkward interactions with others . Based off the ending I am super curious to see how book 5 plays out.
