A third of the way through this collection, I was sorely unimpressed, and like a true hater, was excited about that. But, as the collection progressed, I couldn’t help but enamored by the complexity of emotion these stories explore. Outside of the Black Mirror dupes and the identical successful-older-sibling-loser-younger-sibling reruns, Chung is actually quite adept at creating complicated characters and compelling emotional tenors. 

Two-thirds through, I thought my favorites were “Mantis,” “The Arrow,” and “Names of Fireflies,” but by the end, I was moved by the entire latter half of the collection.
