I am such a sucker for Gregory's historical fiction, these Tudor women are so fascinating!

Philippa Gregory does no wrong! I love the era, I love the narration of all three women, and the research is outstanding! The way she gets into the heads of the woman is beyond me!

This is the story of three of Henry the VIII wives. Once one dies the inheritance goes to the next. The reasons why many of the people the king put to death is in question but it is the king!

Jane's POV: "'But if everyone is our enemy?" I suggest. "If our greed makes us enemies of everyone else?" He bares his yellow teeth in a smile at me. "Everyone is always our enemy," he says. "But right now, we are winning."

****

Katherine's POV: "Take heed what words you speak," I say, and he smiles at me as if he knows as well as I do what I am thinking. "Take heed what you remember," he says.

****
Anne's POV: "I will own a cat and not fear being called a witch; I will dance and not fear being named a whore. I shall ride my horse and go where I please. I shall soar like a gyrfalcon. I shall live my own life and please myself. I shall be a free woman. It is no small thing, this, for a woman: freedom."

I absolutely devoured The Other Boleyn Girl, and The Boleyn Inheritance was no different. This book switches between the points of view of Anne of Cleves, Katherine Howard and Jane Rochford during King Henry VIII's reign. How terrifying it must have been to live during this time. Gregory's writing is beautifully done, and you can tell how much research has gone into these books. Please realize this is still a book of fiction, and she does take some liberties here and there with information that may not have been documented or readily available (as she mentions in her author's note). She does give a nice list of resources about the Tudors, King Henry VIII, his wives (specifically in this book, Anne of Cleves, and Katherine Howard), and Jane Rochford (sister in law to Anne Boleyn) at the end.

Adding the rest of this series to my TBR list -- Gregory is now an auto-read author for me.

Masterfully written, it sucks you in right until the very end. She writes a tale we all know in a way that makes us sit at the edge of our seat in anticipation for what's next. By far one of the best books of hers.

I really liked that fact that this book is told from the perspective of three very different women. There is a lot of politics in this series and I like the fact that Henry 8th is becoming more unhinged and that people are struggling to keep favour, it adds a lot of tension.
