Entertaining; enjoyable read! Pioneer Woman recounts her meeting, courtship and marriage to Marlboro Man!

Fun enough read, but I think I like her better in blog format. There was a lot of unnecessary angst over silly things and somehow that's a bit more palatable in blog form.

So unbelievably bad. But we all know I’m slightly obsessed with her so I had to do it.

Yuck. Just yuck. I chose this for the book discussion group I run for the library because we had a kit. The author insists throughout the book that she is not the marrying kind and doesn't fall in love too fast, but we learn that from the time she was in high school to the time she married the "Marlboro Man" she was in a string of serious relationships in which her world revolved around her current man. Everything from her eating habits to her career choice changed depending on who she was with. When she gives birth to her first child, she can't talk about passing gas in front of her husband because it's too embarassing? Come on. Awful.

I really like receiving books from friends and family members that they enjoyed reading themselves, which is what this book was for me. Sometimes I really like them and sometimes I don't, that's just how it goes. Unfortunately, this book fell into the latter category for me, but take my review with a grain of salt since this isn't what I would consider to be one of my preferred genres. I'm not big on memoirs, but I think I would have enjoyed this book more if it delved into how she got started on television and went on to build a very successful brand.

This book focuses on the early months of her relationship with her husband, from meeting him to getting married to the birth of their first child. It's a sweet book and I liked that her love for her husband was clearly shown throughout the book. However, it was just kind of slow and uneventful. I felt like she was trying to manufacture drama where there was none. Wedding planning? A lot of people deal with that (Side note, I have no idea why so many people subject themselves to weddings, it's just one day and the stress doesn't seem like it's worth it.). Her parents' divorce? Again, very common, and I thought it was childish and selfish how she made it about her and put her mom in the villain role when maybe her mom just wanted to be happy later in life.

I felt that she was so immature and not at all ready to be a wife and mother. The debilitating nausea sounded terrible, and I did feel bad for her at that point, but it seemed like the whole third part was nothing but her vomiting which I really didn't want to read about.

I get that she was young when she experienced all of this, but it just got irritating to read at times.

All that being said, Drummond is a great writer with an easy writing style, and her sense of humor clearly came through when reading the book. If you're a fan of her and her cooking show, I think you'll probably really enjoy this book. If not, it'll be more hit or miss. I give it a C-.

This is a great love story. Makes me want to move out to the country to have my own piece of heaven.
adventurous emotional funny hopeful informative lighthearted reflective medium-paced

Let me start by saying I like Ree Drummond. I like her recipes; I like that she has parlayed a passion for food into a successful blog, cookbooks and cooking show; I like that she's just enough wholesome with a little bit spunky to make things fun. And her foray into non-cookbook writing reads like a conversation we've all had - a girlfriend sharing the story of how she met her husband, crazy antics and all. But ultimately, this book is like bubble gum for the mind: It's kinda sweet, but you're not really thinking about it and it's all but forgotten once you're done.

It was entertaining. It seemed a little long and redundant at some points, but still pretty good.

I absolutely love PW, and her love for her husband was contagious. Thanks for giving us a glimpse inside your fairy tale.

This book tells the background to a creative story.....a true love story. It's a modern day fairy tale! Love her even more now!!
