OK, so I am not a Pioneer Woman hater. Just want to make that clear.
This book made me hate her, though. She comes off as a self-absorbed, spoiled brat. There's either a ton missing, or she spent the whole time from the time she met Marlboro Man to the time she married him doing...nothing. Nothing but swooning over him and WE GET IT! He's sexy and you love him. This book was like 200 pages too long.
And the stuff with her parents divorce bothered me. IT ISN'T ABOUT YOU! You're a grown woman! GROW UP!

(3.5 stars) To borrow a reader comment from the book jacket - "That's it. I want a cowboy."
Really enjoyed this autobiographical love story. I am only slightly acquainted with the Pioneer Woman (used her pie crust recipe and my husband said it was the best he had ever tasted) so the information was all new to me. I understand why she has such a following, she is funny, self-deprecating, open and a very good writer. And I feel like I know a teeny tiny bit more about cattle ranchers.
This was better than I was expecting. A simple, true, love story.
I read PioneerWoman.com occasionally, and then I am mostly interested in the recipes, so I had not read any of the story ahead of time (except the first part of the first chapter that is in her cookbook). Well, I am a sucker for a love story and I thought this was a good love story. I thought the writing was good, but not exceptional, and the story kept me interested. Overall it was a quick, light and easy read.
I was a big fan of the series that formed the foundation of this book. The author writes a terrific, fun, lively blog full of humorous stories, illustrated with gorgeous pictures. Unfortunately, this didn't survive the blog-to-book transition well. For notes on that, check out Gretchen Rubin's The Happiness Project. She really sets the bar by which all successful blog-to-book moves are done.
Picked this up on a whim during a recent trip to the library and I'm so glad I did. It's the story of the author's real life romance and I loved reading it. Highly recommend to other hopeless romantics!
I love watching Ree cook and found this book a delightful look into her and how she came to be the awesome woman she is. She is sweet to share the story of the courtship with her husband.

I love the Pioneer Woman's pie crust, chicken pot pie, pizza dough, sangria and other recipes. I love her cookbook that reads like a book complete with pictures and wit. Ree Drummond is a warm and engaging person and so when she released a book about her love story with the aptly named Marlboro Man I knew I would want to read it, if for no other reason than to learn more about how she became so entwined with a cowboy and life on a ranch.
Chronicling her love story with the Marlboro Man, Ree Drummond writes her story in novel form rather than a typical biography form. So at times you almost forget that you are reading a non-fiction story rather than fiction. Meeting him in a bar on her way to live in a big city Ree had her whole world and life plans turned around for the love of this cowboy. With his cowboy ways he convinced her to stay in Oklahoma. Their story is sweet and fiery, almost a little unbelievable really. But it is heartwarming.
It was a pretty good story and Ree has a warm style - much like her food. I don't regret the time I spent reading it.

I've been reading Ree's blog for a while now and I've been waiting for this book since it was announced. It was such an enjoyable read.
