I’m using this volume to rate the overall ongoing series. I want to like this more but the pacing is poor. This became abundantly clear after going from the anime to the manga. I thought the manga would have progressed so much further with this many chapters. This is not the case… I may drop this manga entirely before it finishes.

My friend convinced me into it so yeah, but I liked it. I love Deku's muttering, putting everything in place.

I have already seen the anime, meaning nothing in this was new to me. That being said, I wanted to keep on reading! I'm glad I did read this as that almost didn't happen. Now just have to get my hands on the rest!

  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Strong character development? Yes
  • Loveable characters? Yes
  • Diverse cast of characters? Yes
  • Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated

Fantastically drawn, the concept is cool. I love “all might”’s western comic book appearance. Bakugou’s expressions and appearance are top notch. He is a total bully… but I see room for growth. Deku is the classic underdog with a heart of gold…. I really enjoyed this.

A fun start to a series that I'm really interested in reading further, mostly because people keep recommending it to me. I enjoy the overall concept (very X-Men!) and adore superhero stories where the powers are so highly varied. That paired with a school setting is right up my alley (hello, Sky High) and I'm already having fun seeing Midoriya interact with all his classmates as he tries to learn about his power. There's nothing that leaps right out at me and makes this first volume stand out, but like I said, I'm going to keep reading to see how everything develops!

“It’s All Might!! he’s drawn so differently then the rest of us. Gives me goosebumps..”

So I went in to this Manga blind having known nothing about this series at all other then it’s popular and what the cover looked like, and I was unsure how I would feel about it considering how strange it looked from a judging the cover perspective but I am glad I picked it up!! This manga is surprisingly funny, cute, with the right amount of action and the characters are very likeable. I like the plot regarding the majority of people being born with “quirks” and I will be for sure be picking up the next volume.
