Madi has it all - yet she still feels like something is missing, especially when it comes to her boyfriend. When she has the opportunity to take a business trip to Puerto Rico she jumps at the chance, and the opportunity for a little space from Jayden, her boyfriend, thinking it will be just what their relationship needs. But in Puerto Rico she meets another man and everything becomes more complicated.

This book is a beautiful love letter to Puerto Rico, and with the incredible descriptions of the setting and so much information about the culture, I want to book a trip there immediately. I loved the descriptions of the location as well as the history and culture within the story. I thought this was truly the highlight of the book. Unfortunately, while I adored the setting, the romance fell a bit flat for me. Instalove and miscommunication are tropes that can be tricky for me to get into, and in this case, I never fully felt the chemistry.

Thank you to Kensington Books and NetGalley for the advance copy.

Definitely a cute read. Romance isn’t my first choice of genre, and a lot of it felt unrealistic to me, but I did feel inspired by the spiritual aspects of this story, and I loved the snippets of history that were sprinkled in. I did like the opportunity to dream of this romance though.

Ultimately, I liked the story, but it felt pretty choppy and could have used another edit. I wish it was written more smoothly because the premise was unique and the story was sweet.

This book follows Madi who believes her Fiancee is not the one and goes to Puerto Rico for her trip where she find a man she believes is her soul mate.

I love the plot that Mendez wrote and could see where it was going. Though that plot and conflicts were met halfway there. Instead of a soul mate story, this book felt like it was more like the MC falling in love with Puerto Rico. Which is not a bad story to go on if it was woman’s fiction.

The pacing was great and so was the setting. I enjoyed learning about the culture in this book and seeing it through the MC’s eyes.

Madi was too much of a naive character and I was having a hard time taking her seriously for some things. She wasn’t a bad person but just had some questionable moments. Her character development was great and I liked the way she ended up. Then there was her fiancee who I hated because he was toxic but sometimes she wanted to go back to him. The romance was mid as I couldn’t feel the chemistry between Madi and Peter. There were some cute moments but there was miscommunication that I wish wasn’t there.

The ending was good and not so bad. For me the culture saved this book because I wanted to learn more about it and explore Puerto Rico. The writing wasn’t so bad but if the characters were written really well, this book had potential.

📚 Book Review 📚

#LoveOfMyLives #BookReview #MediocreRead

📖 Just finished reading Love of my Lives by Yamile Saied Méndez and I have mixed feelings about it. While the book had its moments of humor, overall, it fell short of my expectations. 🤷‍♀️

💔 The characters in this novel were disappointingly one-dimensional, lacking depth and complexity. It was difficult to connect with them on a deeper level, which made it hard to fully invest in their stories. 😔 #OneNoteCharacters

🔮 Additionally, the plot was far too predictable. I found myself anticipating every twist and turn, which took away from the element of surprise that I usually enjoy in a book. 🙄 #PredictablePlot

😂 On a positive note, Love of my Lives did have some comical spots that brought a smile to my face. The author's ability to inject humor into certain scenes was a saving grace for an otherwise lackluster read. 🤣 #ComicalMoments

Overall, Love of my Lives was a mediocre read. While it had its humorous moments, the one-note characters and predictable plot hindered my enjoyment of the story. 📚💔 #BookReview #MediocreRead
