Harris, when we wanted a Hannibal prequel, we wanted to know how he ended up in prison in the first place, not how Nazis ransacked his ancestral home in Lithuania before he fell in love with his Japanese surrogate mother. At least it clarified where he learned how to abuse drugs to access or create false memories, that clears up the ending of Hannibal a little.
But god. If I ever have access to a time machine, it will be to go back and tell Thomas Harris not to stick with this idea. Do better, babe, you can do it, I promise you.

The book isn't boring, but i'd prefer not to know about Hannibal's childhood, it somehow deminishes his achievements.
