4 1/2 stars... clever book. I enjoyed reading the dog's "point of view" Sweet
Parts of this book were profound. Enzo is wonderful. I couldn't relate to the racing references no matter how hard I tried, but it did make me consider dogs and life in a different way. I do recommend it.

Have you ever wondered what a dog sees and wonders what us humans do or say? Would you ever think that your fellow pet is judging you or do they think that you are perfect?
A dog named Enzo that lives in Seattle with his master Denny. Denny has had quite the past, he lost his wife and now has to take care of his daughter, Zoe. Enzo supports Denny through every decision he makes. Dennys wife's parents begin a lawsuit so that they get Zoe and Denny can suffer from his mistakes he’s made. In order to pay for lawyer's fees, Denny has to sell his house and things start piling up from this point on. There's this pesky teenager that is clingy and wants Denny. She charged Denny of a sexual assault that never happened between them. Like three months later, she lets go and confesses she made everything up. Not only does Denny get a job doing his favorite thing (mechanical work on cars), but he gets his daughter back! Read The Art of Racing in the Rain to find out more of what happened to Denny and Enzo.
Garth Stein did a miraculous job of writing this book from a dog's point of view, however, there are strength and weaknesses in this book. The strengths of this book were the writing style which made it an easy and fast read for me, the plot line was well filled out and kept me engaged, and the book wasn't too short but wasn't too big, it was just right.
Stein's weaknesses of this book would have been maybe to try expanding the vocabulary in this book, make it a little harder, make the book longer because the ending kinda left me hanging a little bit, and that maybe the book could have been written from a human's point of view. Maybe the book would have been written differently.
I would give this book 4 out of 5 stars because it kept my attention all throughout the book and kept me turning pages one after another. I would recommend this book to pet lovers because it tells what a dog thinks and does in ints free time. I am using this book for the Realistic/ contemporary fiction category.

Started and finished in one day. Can't remember the last time I did that. It's just impossible to put down.

captivating and told by the dogs point of view which was refreshing and new. lovely descriptions and quirks. I do get emotional at times, and this book ended up being a hard read for me and I had to skip a few chapters to make sure it wasn't going to end awful. Maybe just not a book for me.
