4.14 AVERAGE

I'd like to give this 4.5 stars. I'd also like to never read a book about a pet ever again; you know how it's going to end. But, a certain amount of predictability aside, this is a really special book with a very endearing narrator who has some important things to say about the lives we live with their moments of strangeness, sadness, and beauty. I couldn't put it down.

You will cry. I'm not going to lie. It will be worth it, I promise. The last chapter of this book is one of the more beautiful things I have read. The imagery is something that stays with me, even though I haven't read the book for several years.

For those of you who have read Marley and Me and found it lacking a certain poetry, that is what this book brings.

3.5 rounded up here.

As a HUGE F1 fan, it was fun to read all of the little tidbits throughout the book. Those were the best parts for me.

Of course, the reader can’t help but get attached to Enzo, the dog. His perspective is unique and often funny. It was also poignant during serious emotional scenes.

For me, the novel centered too much around Enzo witnessing adult type behavior. I think the book would have been better without any of it. Especially, as it was used for the pivotal conflict.

If you are a race fan, those parts are fun. If you love dogs, most of Enzo’s story as it pertains to his love for his family is heartwarming.

A tear jerker and a great story!

I loved the skillful way the author wrote from the dog's POV. It's the best book I've read in a long while.

I give it a 2 for me, but probably a 4 for the general public. First off Enzo was a little too zen for me. Enzo's doggy ruminations on his lifelong preparation for reincarnation as a man are boring and contrite. In general the book tries too hard to be philosophical while the characters are super flat - um, the EVIL TWINS? The generous benfactor who magically appears at the end to solve all Denny's problems? The precocious wonderful daughter who turns out to be a genius just like dad? In spite of it's flaws though I enjoyed reading it for the most part. It's very low impact, I liked the stuff about the "zebra" being everywhere and the racing metaphors. Growing up in Daytona I can appreciate that kind of thing.
