Very sweet story about a loyal dog who thinks like a man and loves his family through some dark times. I give it a 4 rather than a 5 because I didn’t love the court case situation. I’m sure things like that happen, but there are too many cases where victims are blamed for this one to sit right with me. I also felt a little disconnected from Eve and Zoe and wanted a little more depth there. Not sure how that would be accomplished with the dog POV but I think that stopped me from fully loving it. Overall though, it was a good book and I adore Enzo.

I really expected to like this book, but wasn't prepared for the dark parts in the middle so that may have colored my reading. The novel approach of having the dog, Enzo, narrate his own story and use his environment and experiences with his racing owner really worked for me. It was "believable" because it did only use his own experience and understanding of what was going on. The owner goes through some very rough experiences and the dog comments and supports his family to the best of his abilities. If I had been ready for some of the trials, I probably would have enjoyed it more, but I would definitely read more by this author.

Beautiful and poignant book of racing and commitment, dedicated to telling the story of a relentless pursuit of family and love.

emotional sad

This was so emotional but I love it!
emotional hopeful sad medium-paced

This book was beautiful and only a little heartbreaking! It has beautiful touches of humor but on the whole it just moves you. I was surprised by the ending. I'm interested to see how the book gets adapted to film, but it'll be a dog movie so I'll cry no matter what.
