El Tao De Pooh

Got it free from the library, audiobook version. It’s an alright whimsical little book. I can see how it may be a primer for a western introduction to Taoism. There were some parts I liked, but mostly the references to other works. Overall, not really my jar of honey.

Maybe I’m just not smart enough but I have literally no idea what this is about. I just know Pooh and friends are on it.

Short, sweet, and simple. Got me interested in reading more Taoist literature for a deeper understanding.

Actual rating 2.5 ⭐

I decided to read this novel because I was interested in learning the Taoist ideas and explained it through one of my favorite Disney characters.
There were parts of the book that made me really think, such as not wasting time and knowing your faults.
Despite this, a fair amount of the story went straight over my head. It wasn't interesting and I got lost easily.

Sweet little book full of lovely wisdom. An enjoyment to read. I like that it didn’t do what a lot of more recently published books do and add a lot of fluff to create more pages. It said what it needed to say and then it ended.

I did find some parts confusing as it switches from excerpts from actual Pooh stories to the author’s imaginary conversation with Pooh to a more essay like commentary of the author’s ideas and teachings. It’s a nice way to present the information but there’s no visible deviation from the different writing styles, so sometimes I had to backtrack a bit to figure out “where we are”…so to speak.

There’s some absolutely stellar quotes in here that I want to copy down and stick to my bathroom mirror. They’re that good. I’ll be recommending this one to friends and buying copies as gifts.

A simple, lighthearted introduction to Taoism through the perspective of Whinnie the Pooh.
