3.5⭐️ a wholesome story about coming of age and coming into one’s own identity. Unfortunately, the pacing of the story just didn’t grip me.

Queer romance ABOUNDS in this fantastic debut by Cynthia So (they/them). They have created a gorgeous little book which young people today will absolutely love - especially anyone who spends their time on Tumblr reading fanfic. Friendship, fandom, romance, growing up Chinese-British and food that will make your mouth water - I'm coming round their house for tea, please!

Thanks to the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book. It will be reviewed by young people at my school soon too.

It was cute and fun but nothing special. The writing was fine and so were the characters but I wasn’t super invested in them. I think the author did a good job of bringing everything together in the end tho. Weird motif of needing to tell people you like them.

I cannot recommend this book enough. It resonates with me as a queer reader who's had similar relationships as Elsie and Ada, and the queerness throughout this book is wonderful.

I really enjoyed this book! For a while i was like "wait a queer story where literally everyone has a crush on the main character? I don't buy it." then i decided that even if that was true, you know, fair enough! Even though she was making terrible choices, being a teenager is a mess so i will accept it. (It may or may not have been an accurate take, just for the record.) And once i let myself just enjoy the ride, i really liked it. The characters were likeable but... imperfect. I want this book in high school libraries!
