S Is for Silence

Sue Grafton

3.76 AVERAGE

I started out really liking the style that Grafton used to tell this story--taking us back every few chapters so we could see what actually happened to the people she was investigating decades later. Unfortunately, the story of these people was too racy (tawdry) for my taste. I also felt like she left the story with way too many unanswered questions and I don't think it was clear why the murderer did it! Annoying.

Kinsey Milhone is like an old friend, good to sit down with for a while even after all these years.

This is the only book in the series that I hadn't read. Don't know how/why it was skipped. As always, a fun, fast read. Good story that holds up to the end, great characters, and Kinsey. Doesn't get much better than that.

This was written in a very different style than the previous books in the series. Not only is the usual epilogue missing (I think this only happened once before), but there are several flashback chapters, told from perspectives of characters other than Kinsey. Still enjoyable, just had to get used to the change.

Quick read, but I don't know how I feel about the inclusion of the statutory rape couple as not only romantic, but also reunited without any character commenting on how wrong this relationship is.
